Let me tell you what happend to me on MTX I was on 10mg. For a 1 month by the end of month  had such pain in my lower back I didn't know what was wrong. I could not sit on my butt because I had such pain in hips and back and didn't know what the heck was going wrong. The only thing I could think it was is the MTX that was the last med I started. Sure enough I went back to doctor and he said to stop it and pain is gone in my lower back and almost gone in hips. So now we know thats what was causing all the pain. It was really bad. So now all he could do is up my predisone to 40mg and take my  enbrel. I hope everything will be okay until I go back. He has me coming back every 2 weeks because my body was retaining fluild so I have to be on 2 water pills now. I lost 10lbs of water in one week. Gee I wish it was fat LOL. Thought I would share this with you all. Have a good day and pain free. Joan

Sorry to hear the MTX makes you hurt and that you had to come off of it.

MTX does the same to me, but it makes my toes hurt and then spreads to all over after I take my dose. I just started taking 5 pills, was on 3 pills, and I have been complaining more about my toes hurting and that I think I need a new pair of shoes. But I know it is not my shoes... it is the MTX. The increased pain starts to subside by wednsday or thursday, and then I take my MTX dose on friday. So... it is a vicious cycle for me.

I would come off of it, but it might help the Remicade to work better and in turn help with the chronic inflammation.

The increased pain that comes along with the MTX, I am just seeing as an inevitable side effect for for me anyways. I knew the MTX would make me hurt more, because I had been on it before and it done the same thing. At least this time around I am not getting the hot/cold flashes as often after taking my dose. The first time I took MTX in 2004, I would get hot/cold flashes maybe 30 mins after I took my dose. But I have only had that happen a handful of times since I started taking it again.

I hope you can find something else to replace the MTX. Have you considered Imuran? I was on that for a year, it did not do what it was suppose to do, so I gave into the MTX.

Please keep us updated.
Glad you found the souce and are feeling better- hope the other meds continue to keep you comfortable!
