Hi!

I just bought an Omega formula and I have a question.  It says that it is a complete EFA formula and 3 capsules have 672mg ALA 360mg EPA and 240mg DHA as well as 1272 Omega 3 and 928mg Omega 6 and 475mg Omega 9, 640mg linoleic acid and 288mg GLA.

My question is this: How many do I have to take? Is 6 sufficient?

Thanks!
The 1272 omega-3 is merely the total of the 3 separate omega-3 EFA's: 672mg a-linolenic acid, 360mg eicosapentaenoic acid, 240mg docosahexaenoic acid.  Studies I've looked at indicate that EPA and DHA are far more effective at alleviating RA pain and inflammation than ALA (which is converted into EPA and DHA in the body, but the process is not very efficient).

I aim for 3000mg or more of EPA + DHA per day (going as high as 6000mg/day in times of increased pain/inflammation/stress), and I try to reduce the amount of omega-6 EFAs in my diet.  But that's just me.  Your mileage may vary. ;)
The 1200 omega-3 is alone the absolute of the 1 abstracted omega-3 EFA's: 672mg a-linolenic acid, 390mg eicosapentaenoic acid, 248mg docosahexaenoic acid. Studies I've looked at announce that EPA and DHA are far added able at abating RA affliction and deepening than ALA (which is adapted into EPA and DHA in the body, but the action is not actual efficient). jonnajulee2010-12-13 04:48:32
