Humira shot! I did it! | Arthritis Information

hey all! some of you may or may not know that i've been struggling big time with giving myself injections of humira every other week. i absolutely freaked myself out each time. my anxiety would kick in so bad that my heart would start to race, hands would get clamy & sweaty, and i'd get dizzy & feel like puking. and the injections in my leg would sting so bad it'd take me at least 10 min's to complete it.

well, with all your help & encouragement, i did the shot in my abdomen last night & hello!!! what a wonderful difference! it hardly stung & it was over in a minute! i'm SO excited that i can actually do this now! and i don't feel like such a big baby. what a relief lifted!! (big sigh)

THANK YOU ALL SOOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP. YOU GUYS ARE WONDERFUL.

We're proud of you girl!! Great job.Good job! I wish I had the guts to do it on my own. I can sit here thinking about doing it, but when push comes to shove I back out. My husband does it for me

murphette, you're lucky you have someone who will & can do it for you.

The one time I did it on my own my husband got mad. Said that's what I have him for....I do think he likes to feel needed....and lord knows he is!!

Congratulations!

I STILL cannot shoot myself.  My husband has to do it - and if he's not around - I take it to work and let my friends do it... LOL
(I work with EMTs - they know how!!)

I just CANT.  hee hee  I'm a wimp!   I'm thankful I have a husband who will do this for me.   I know a lot of people dont have support... and my heart goes out to them.  I dont know what I'd do without my husband!

Yea, I have to be super nice to him on humira days....er else he's like...I can get even with you. Ofcourse he's teasing so I hope no one takes it seriously

Joey,   Knew you could do it and it just gets easier!

My husband is never nervous, he rubs his hands together

I have only tried my stomach once and I was freaked out the hole time alls I could think of was how close it was to all my organs (Silly I know)! wHERE IN YOUR STOMACH ARE YOUI DOING IT? dO YOU FIND IT HARD TO PULL UP ON THE SYRINGE IN THE BEGANING TO CHECK FOR BLOOD? SOME TIMES i SKIP THAT STEP IT'S HARD AND IT HURTS MORE TO PUL IT UP THE SYRINGE USALLY STARTS COMING OUT. So. I've decided to keep to my leg!

I leave my Humiria out for about 45min. It dosen't sting as much but I'm STARING TO havinG a hive start about 1/2 hour after the injection. This is been happening ever sense I got my tomsils out and I was off the Humira for about one month.  Gets really red and itchy! sometimes I can't walk on it at all. Have you or anyone experinced this? I'm ready to give up on it. My Rheumy wants to try Embrel but that shot is every stinking day No way! I can bearly to do this every two weeks. Oh and I've also changed my injection time to evening before I go to bed.!!!

Keep up the great work!!!

WAY TO GO

You did it, You did it.... YOU DID IT!!!!

KAT

After I read you post and replied I decied the Tuesday night to give my stomach another chance.

As I said before I leave my med. out for 45min til it is room temp.( Abbot Pharmist said thet was okay todo) Them I sit on the sofa get relaxed and hold up my roll and inject. The anxity wasn't there and I didn't rash up til an hour later. the next morning I'm a little sore in the injection site and a 2x2 rashy looking ring. Then today thursday I have a oval shaped redish rash and very itchy cordiad seems to help.

Are you having any rashes yet?

hi tmkwik,

no i didn't get any rashes. i was sore in the injection area the entire next day, but that's it.

i don't know what a rash means. hope it gets better. keep us posted
