Congratulations!!
Owen Thomas was born today at 1:45 pm He weighed in at 5lbs3oz. He was not due until Sept 22nd but Andreas water broke early this morning. He is having some breathing difficulties and he is on CPAP right now to try to get his lungs to work. They are considering surfactant at this time. But they have seen some improvement in his numbers this evening. He is adorable. I do not know how to post pics on here but I do have them on my facebook. Congratulations on the adorable grandbaby. Prayers for a quick recovery for the little one.Congratulations!!

Congratulations going out to you and your family.  I am sure he is a fighter and will be up to speed before you know it.

Owen received surfactant today so hopefully he will get better quick. He just came so fast, his little lungs didn't get the stress time they needed in the labor process. Thanks for all your thoughts and well wishes.I don't know what surfactant is, but I hope it does the job.  Little Owen is in my prayers.  How are mom and dad holding up?  This must be hard on them.  I'm pryaing for them (and you) too.Surfactant is a liquid protein that is put directly into the lungs. It is the protein that babies develop starting at week 32 or 33. If they are born too early (and boys are more vulnerable than girls for some reason), they sometimes do not have enough surfactant in their lungs to keep the alveoli expanded and good oxygen exchange cannot occur. It is a life saver for premie babies. Thank God for these life saving drugs (or whatever this is). He is absolutely beautiful and is doing pretty good tonight. They are going to try to wean him to a nasal cannula tonight. Andrea held him for the first time tonight. What a blessing. Congratulations. Is this your first Grandbaby?

I said a prayer for baby Owen...and will continue to do so. I hope things will soon improve and you also will be able to hold him. Post a picture if you can. I don't use Facebook but would love to see the little man.
No Lovie. This is number 5. Our two oldest daughters were both due the same day, Sept 22nd. Jill is still waiting. Number 6 is a girl. Owen is grandson number 2.
