RA & New Job | Arthritis Information

I just accepted a job offer at a new company and will start in 2 - 4 weeks. However, I'm concerned about how my RA might factor into this in terms of insurance and such.  The new job offers a full benefit package including good health insurance that is going to save me approximately 0/month in insurance premiums (my current employeer didn't offer insurance so I had to cover my own insurance out of my own pocket). I've had coverage under my self paid health insurance plan for well over (9) years so due to "Creditable Coverage" when I switch over to my new employers group insurance I will not have to worry about any pre-exhisting illness coverage and my RA expenses will be covered immediately.  However, I did not inform my new employer when I accepted the postion that I had RA. I've never had a job with a company that offered health insurance so I'm curious as to whether when the time comes that I have to fill out paper work to start enrollment in the employers group plan, who I will speak to with regards to disclosing health information.  Would I speak to the employer himself or to an insurance agent that handles their group plan? Also, if the person that I speak to is an insurance agent, can this agent then go back to my employer and inform them of all of my conditions including RA? I'm concerned that if they find out that I have RA this early in the game that they may find a reason not to keep me on. Any info would be greatly appreciated.I don't know what the rules are, but I think I'd talk directly to an agent.   Why wave a possible red flag for your employer if it isn't necessary?
I don't know what the rules are, but I think I'd talk directly to an agent.   Why wave a possible red flag for your employer if it isn't necessary?
I totally agree, if I have a choice I will definately speak to an agent. I just wasn't sure if anybody else on here had dealt with this type of situation before and could tell me who it was that usually completed this paperwork and whether or not an agent could be allowed to inform and employer of any major illnesses.I have no suggestions, just wanted to wish you all the best with your new job and I hope everything works to your advantage.

cheers, Shug
Congratulations on the new job - and having health benefits offered.   When you enroll, you shouldn't have to disclose your health information to anyone.   Maybe, I'm wrong and some smaller plans ask for medical history, but would be very surprised with HIPAA regulations that they can ask those questions.

I don't think you need to say anything.  It's been a while since I started a new job-but I am almost positive I didn't have to write down anywhere that I had RA.

Don't tell anyone anything. Many, many people have chronic diseases and they don't go around disclosing them! It's no ones business but your own! You shouldn't have any pre-existing problems since you've had coverage, make sure you get that letter from your current ins co; I forget what the letter is called, ugh failing mind. Never, ever tell the agent or your employer anything. There's a website about RA and how to handle your employer out there, I don't know the web address though. But is basically says that you don't have to tell your employer anything, so don't. That's my 2 cents. If preexhisting conditions are covered than i see no reason to disclose your RA to your employer.
