Frozen thumb | Arthritis Information

Hello everyone. I haven't posted here before as I'm usually at the RA board but honestly, I'm not sure what bothers me more, OA or RA.

Right now I'm having a terrible time with OA. My neck is so bad that I have to turn my whole body to look in either direction. I'm in physical therapy now, learning to strengthen my neck muscles. My lower back is getting worse, new changes in my x-rays..... but I have a question regarding my left thumb. It is "frozen". I've been wearing a splint to hold it still. I think it's making it worse. But I can't stand having to "pop" it whenever I need to use it. I don't know what to think. Is it ever going to get better? Or is this the end of my thumb as I knew it? My right is stiff also but not to this extent.

Thank you for any help you may have.
Gwen
Thank you so much for that information. Is there a chance that it could get better? I haven't had good experiences with cortisone shots and I'm sure it would hurt like the devil. I'll try icing it like you suggested.Rose Mary, you are a wealth of information! Thank you so much for all this information. I haven't used the icing method nearly enough for all my aches and pains.

Since your first reply to me I've been splinting my thumb and it does feel better. At least it's not popping whenever it bends because it CAN'T! I don't relish the thought of splinting it for the rest of my life but there are worse things to worry about. I will try icing it but I'm going to skip the injections. I'm finding that I'm getting along just fine without the use of it and I don't need the pain of an injection, besides.

Thanks again!
Gwen
