Pleurisy or Pericarditis | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone!  I will be 35 in a week, and i may have RA.  My trouble started a few years ago with recurrent bouts of pleurisy.  Like every 3 months.  Then this past July i had pericarditis.  I started having terrible foot pain upon waking in the morning and walked like i was 90, and now some of my other joints have "twinges"  I am extremely fatigued and feel like doing nothing.  I am to see a RA doctor on the 16th of September.  Just curious how many others have experienced pleurisy or pericarditis with RA.  Thanks for any input!!!

Hi charmin

I havent had pluerisy or pericaditis but find that very interesting. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. I know waiting for your dr visit seems like forever but hang in there and I hope you get answers . I have read RA can affect your internal organs along with joints. There's so much to this disease and I'm finding even some of the drs I've ran into don't seem to know as much as you'd hope they would. I hope you find this rheumy a great help. I am your age. I remember exactly what you said about walking like an old woman, it can get really bad can't it at times?! Just know if it is ra you'll feel so much relief once you start your meds... Please let us know what you find out or email me if you just want to vent or have questions . It's nice to have someone to talk to at times that is going through similar things.

Kelly Thanks so much Kelly!!  You're right it is helpful to talk to someone going thru the same thing.  I'll keep in touch!!  Thanks!!

Hi Charmin, I join Kelly in offering you best wishes and a speedy resolution.

RA presents in so many different ways that it is impossible to say, with conviction, what is or what is not a sign or a symptom.

I bid you a speedy resolution of you difficulties and an aggressive approach to bringing you relief and eventually remission.

Cheers, Shug
I have had recurrent pleurisy since being on methotrexate. I blame the MTX, but my doctor blames RA.Well it could be the RA.....maybe it's coincidence about the methotrexate.  I haven't been officially diagnosed yet, but they said it'd explain the pleurisy if i do have RA.  Have never been on Methotrexate myself but find that interesting.  We'll see, if i get put on Methotrexate what happens.I've had both.  I had pleurisy right before I was dx with RA, before any meds.  Since then I have had bouts of pericarditis--or what is assumed to be pericarditis, although I think the costochondritis kind of joins in the game.I had pericarditis at the outset of my journey with Adult onset Still's. I have had pleurisy often thru-out the years -- well before symptoms arose and after.
