Hello, I am somewhat of a newbbie here. I have been on Humira injections since September 2005.  Starting injection in my upper thighs alternating each side. Right away I noticed little knots under my skin every injection site. Horrible burning ect...Not til the latter part of October did I start having recation such as, huge hives and red rashy spots on injection site and lip and face beakouts.

I have given myself two stomach injections one not so good but thanks to another member other on this board reading everyones suggestions I retired my stomach and it wroked so much better.

Major recation I am having know is my lips are breakingout!!!YUK!! I could just die

They come up as tiny little pimples with white heads or some are just under the skin and they hurt. I am now 5months into the Humira injections and I look like I have acne from my nose down to my chin consentrating around my lips it's so embrassing.

Today I went to a Dermatologist for the first time in my llife.  She said because the Humira is so new they haven't found out everything is to know about it yet. there is nothing inthe Med. books about face or body breakouts but she said in conjections with the predisone I've been on for two years could be a helper in this fight. The Dermatogolst did say that atuo immune deiasea because of the meds thaey put us one may cause increasingly amounts of skin blemishes and skin disorders. So we are trying it topical first. With script. face washes and gels along with over the counter cetaphil products.

Has anyone else having these skin recations???

I'm on every day pedisone 5mg, Humria 40mg, sythroid 55mg, then as needed dicoflanc and darvecet .

I can say this I am very happy with Humira it has changed my life around. I honestly workout everyday for an hour and kickbox every Tues. & thurs! (Okay yes, I'm very fatgiue but I keep going or I could sleep all day! And No!!! I'm not losing any wiegh I'm 50lbs over weigh but that's a streiod issue!)That's with Humira! Before Hurima I was doing good just picking up my baby and getting us down the stairs.

I may sound really vain, okay I am vain! I'm not sure I can deal with my lips hurting and being so ugly looking! I look horrible hopefully these Derma meds. will work!

Hi, I have not had any of those reactions that you expirenced. I have only been on Humira for 6 weeks. But it sounds like it could be an allergic reation? Have they ruled that out yet. I had a horrible allergic reation to sulfasalizine, and my face was awful to. I hope you feel better soon.

I've been on Humira for well over a year now. I take it weekly along with 25mg of MTX. I do have more skin problems than I did when I was younger (Now 35) but I suspect a good bit of mine is related to sjorgens syndrome. That causes my skin to be very, very dry and flakie. I tend to break out a little more than usual too....but nothing I'd consider a "reaction".

I've had horrible fever blister type sores on the outside of my lips since I was a young child from time to time. I still get them occationally; but I don't relate them to Humira. I'd guess MTX if anything...but considering my history I really won't do that either.

I sure hope your troubles settle down soon. Keep us all posted as this is certainly a topic we're all interested in.

Good Luck to you. And welcome to both of you. Hope to see more of you here.

Lovie

[/QUOTE] I am a newbie...and very scared and worried.  I am a needle phobic and I am worried about the side effects and possible side effects.  I am the max of MTX and sulfasal., paquinel, prednis., and more.  I have had RA for @ 2 years and now they want to try Humira.  I am probably supposed to start in @ 2 weeks.  Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated

I gave myself my second injection last week, and since I started taking Humira, I have had acne develop around my nose, in between my eyes/forehead, and some around my mouth. I feel so horrible about myself. I also take 50mg synthroid daily.

I'm wondering if your acne has gone away with a topical medication or if you found out whether or not the Humira was causing the acne. I feel so terrible about the way I look that I am ready to tell my rheumatologist that I'd like to try another medication. Each morning for the last month I've been waking up praying for a miracle and it just seems to be getting worse every day. Before beginning with humira I had some acne but nothing like this. And certainly not on the sides of my nose.

I'm 36, male, and have been taking Humira for about 2 months for psoriatic arthritis.

Acne has become an annoyance since starting Humira, but not to the extent you describe.  I've noticed that I have maybe 4 or 5 pimples and the same number of deeper "boils" on my body at any given time now, where I'd rarely have 1 of either before.

So I think there is a relationship between Humira and acne in some people.  I'm sticking with the medicine for now, and hope those who are getting hit by it harder find a good solution!

HI EVERYONE. HAVE STARTED TAKING HUMIRA FOR ANKYLOSING SPONDILITIS AND HAVING BRILLIANT RESULTS IN CONTROLLING THIS CONDITION(IT IS AN INFLAMATORY ARTHRITIS.)I STARTED IN DECEMBER 2006 BUT AM GETTING AN INCREASING AMMOUNT OF RED EXCEMA LIKE PATCHES ON MY FACE. THEY STARTED BY MY EYEBROW BUT NOW HAVE LOTS OF THEM ON FACE, HANDS AND ARMPIT.DOC TOLD ME TO TRY CORTISONE CREAM BUT NOT FOR LONG PERIODS AS THEY THIN THE SKIN.THIS HAS A MODERATE EFFECT BUT AS SOON AS I STOP IT COMES BACK. USE AQUEUS CREAM TO WASH WITH NOW. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS AND IS IT ONGOING OR DOES IT IMPROVE WITH TIME? ALSO SOME VEINS IN LOWER BODY ARE MORE PRONOUNCED.

Hi, I have been taking Humira for 4 months now for RA, I feel much better, less joint pain and fatigue. However, I have gained 15lbs. I have been on prednisone (5-10mg) for the last 3 years and gained weight as a result of that as well. I asked my MD if any other patients have complained of weight gain from Humira and he said no. I'm curious if anyone out there has experienced weight gain??? If so have you found a reasonable way to lose it??? I also have fibromyalgia so working out with weights causes inflammation. I'm  sorry to hear about the skin reactions others are experiencing, I haven't had that problem but I have had some reddness & burning at the injection site for a couple of days. Over all I am very happy with Humira and very pleased with the results I am having.

hEY! I VE BEEN TAKING HUMIRA FOR 2 YEARS NOW AND I HAD sensitive teeth and some hair lost.

I am ok right now and i dont have anything now...still a little pain from time to time in my knees and fingers but i guess thatīs common

i didnt have extra lbs and i guess im better cause i used to take cortison...and humira is 100 times better than cortison...

I have been on humira since April. I take 40mgs every other week. I originally started it in Oct but went off in Jan because of surgery for a cyst. I broke out all over with hives. Itching like crazy! My dr suggested I take benedryl a half hour before my injection and then every 6 hours for a few days after. It has really helped. No more itching and hives. I have noticed less stiffness in the morning and I do have more energy. The pain is about the same but I think it's because of damage already done.

I have lots of allergies, seasonal, pets, grass, dust, sulfa, mtx, and I also had an allergic reaction to an epidural when in labor with my daughter (who is now 19). Benedryl helps but makes me so sleepy and with ra all I do is sleep for days after my shot.

Good luck to all with your humira!

I am going to go on Humira in about 4 weeks.  trial drug for me.  I read that it can cause cancer of TB?  has anyone experienced that?  I think I can handle all other side effects, but cancer?  But I don't want the pain on my wrists and fingers either.  i'm an esthetician, and have a 21 month old baby.  picking him up, or opening a carton of milk, is pretty painful.  anyone had any BAD side effects?  my last doctor told me that my wrist has fused, and nothing can be done.  My new doctor told me today to try Humira.  What do you think?

Paraseg:  Your wrist must have been bad for a long time to fuse itself. Mine is very bad and I thought of having it fused because of severe pain througout RA years, but I would not have it fused into one position. I tried MTX, and all other drugs through years, now my first on Humira.  Read all on line sites and be your own advocate doctor. I hope you are seeing a rheumatologist and not just a primary care. RA is an insidious disease and the new TNF drugs are supposed to be fantastic; except for expense.  I was just told my by doctor that the lastest medical seminar showed no relationship to lymphoma with these new TNF drugs.  TB? well, the more you read about RA, the more you may find you are susceptible to other diseases because of your autoimmune disease.  So why not try Humira. I read all, did all and am now taking this step, because I was tired of just "existing". Just "google" humira or humira side effects and click on all related links. Do your homework to give yourself your own peace of mind. Also good idea to  take your vitamins daily including the B's!

Take care, JoanneHi there,

I've had psoriatic arthritis nearly 8 years now and its been pretty awful. This is my first time responding to a forum like this so sorry for the length of this post.

At first because of my age we tried controlling the pain with steroids which were okay but not great. My doc got some good results with other patients with my condition using Humira so a couple of years ago I decided to give it try. At first the arthritis was purely in my knee but then started having problems with my neck so was feeling like I needed to try something. Anyway, started Humira and found the results really good. Ended up only having to take it every few months to keep my condition under control. In my case (and its bound to be different for everyone I realise) I definitely suffered from more serious colds and got an awful cough consistently which meant I always had to take antibiotics to be on the safeside. My advice would be watch any colds. Other than that I can't remember any other side effects really.

When I started doing better, I decided to come off it for a while there last year but had massive flare up so have just started taking it again recently. It's taking longer to take effect this time unfortunately and I think I am getting some different side effects but it would be great if anyone else could let me know if they have had similar experiences? I'm definitely getting more spots and very painful boil-like spots on my neck the odd time, my toenails are badly ridged (they were totally normal before) and my teeth are very sensitive. I'm not planning to stop taking Humira as a result of these side effects as being painfree and mobile is far more important than the other cosmetic stuff (unless I start losing teeth of course... ) but I'd like to know what is possibly being caused by the Humira just so that I know myself.

I know it can really wear you down so for those of you trying Humira for the first time, I hope you have the pretty much instant improvement I got the fist time I started using it as if you do it will give you a whole new lease of live and best of all a good break from the daily grind of arthritis.

Take care,

H.

I'm new to this site.  I got my first humira injection four days ago for my psoriatic arthritis.  The day after the injection I woke up feeling worse than I've felt in a long time.  Each day, I feel slightly better, but still need to take vicodin to feel enough pain relief to move easily.  I am wondering how long it takes for the humira to kick in.  I am hoping someday I can wake and get out of bed without severe stiffness and pain.  I also have osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.  I've been on kenalog (steroid) shots for 3 years, and although the shots worked miracles for me for two months, the third month until the next shot were horrific.  Can anyone tell me how long it took for you to feel better after starting humira.  Thanks to all of you!Hi there,

The first time round I was taking Humira every two weeks and I really started to notice the effects after around 6 weeks which I thought was pretty good. My doc said that some people can experience even quicker effects but I don't think it's a matter of days probably more like a few weeks.

I took a break last year from Humira but after a bad flare up I started taking it again around 3 months ago. My knee joint was much better after around a month. Still waiting for it to kick in and help with neck pain etc but keeping hoping it will soon.

Give it a few more weeks and hopefully it will work for you
