Hi Teresa,
What you are going through sounds horrible!
Best Wishes,
Kelly
(p.s you will be in my prayers)
Wow! I am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I have never heard about RA in the throat. I have difficulty hearing and I wonder if RA is involved. I have had my hearing checked and I am fine, but I have to have things repeated especially if there is background noise. Odd.I am going to ask the doc the next time I go next month. Hang in there. SuzqHi merry, i know what you mean i to have that painfull lump feeling in the throat. have done off / on over the years but was only diagnosed last october 05. the more i find out on this disease. The more frightnend i feel.I do hope you feel better soon.
merry,
I went through the same thing and like you I was terrified. I finally went to my Internist, he took test and I had a bronchial infection/ acid reflux going on and no one saw it. Also, I was put on Previcid to help with the feeling like I had swallowed a small ball and it was stuck in my throat. Since my mother had a hiatal hernia, my doctor thought I should take a proton pump, like Previcid, just to be on the safe side. . I don't have that feeling anymore since I started on the Previcid. I am not saying that is your problem but it could be worth looking into.
It's amazing how all the doctors forget to give us all the heads up as to what could happen with this disease. I wonder why.
Hang in there Merry, at least you know you are not going to pass on from this. I hope that you get some relief and very soon.
Toni
Waddles,
You are the most positive person
AHHH... Thank you Pat.
I have been through plenty of knot holes and back again, so I pretty much know what people are feeling. I also know that I could not have gotten through some of the things I had to, if it wasn't for people taking their time to help me through things, by listening to me and encouraging me to go onward...I hope that I can always be here for people when they need a kind word, pat on the back, encouraging words or just a ear to listen to them.
Thanks again Pat, for your kind words.
I also hadn't heard about RA in the throat, but thought there might be some connection with hearing, as my local hospital asked if I would participate in a hearing test, being carried out on all people who had RA and were prepared to participate. Fortunately my hearing is OK. The throat thing sounds HORRIBLE. Hope they get to the bottom of it soona dn you don't have to go on like that for too long.
dj7756, I also am an ex-smoker and the same thoughts ran through my mind...talk about being 100% afraid. I can attest to that. I take Previcid instead of the Photonix and if I don't get it refilled right away and don't take it 2 days in a row...I will speak with a very raspy throat and I have no sleep because of the acid reflux. I sure have learned "how not to run out of Previcid"...
I also have dry eyes and mouth and my throat gets real dry that sometimes it's hard to swallow. I also get a dry cough. My eyes feel like I have sand paper in them. I go to the eye dr in Mar. Want to ask about plugs. Has anyone tried them? Pat52 puntcal plugs ????????????? what is this you speak of? I have the problem with my eyes too - and my dr has mentioned sjorgens but never officially said if i have it or anything - but mentioned it several times. Like he did with fibromyalgia. Never said " YOU HAVE this"... but keeps saying things like "with fibromyalgia we need to..." and "with sjorgens that happens.".... Dont know what it means - dont care. Just want to feel better.
so - what are these plug in thingys??? wonderin dj7756 I was wondering if you can have dry eye and mouth without having sjordgens. I wonder how they tell the difference? I had an appt with Rhuemy today but cancelled as I have a terrible headache since yesterday and ache all over
dj, From what I've read and I've read alot it is common with autoimmune disorders. I started with dry eyes a yr before I had RA symtoms. I went to eye dr because I thought it was allergies. He said it was dry eye and I had an abrasion on my cornia. I use wetting drops and biotene toothpaste and mouthwash. I use fake saliva but that is temporary. It can be pretty anoying but it isn't painful
Merry, Thanks. I'll ask my DR about these tests. Pat
woobie
LOL Punctal plugs are something an eye dr puts in the bottom of the eye, lower lid area. Its an easy process to have done. No pain.It keeps the natural tears in the eye. Hence dry eye. I believe you can have dry eye and not have sjordgens syndrom.
