Hey I need some advice please, I was dx with ra and bursitis in my hip 2 years ago. at first we used plaquinel to control it and for about 9 months that worked until I started having stomach issues and they stopped my meds for some tests when it was ok for me to start taking them again it seemed to stop working for me. I then started methotrexate and that worked for about six months and they stopped for more stomach tests,my ra has been up and down since July, I have just been dx with gall bladder disease and they are advising that I have my gall bladder removed. Could this be causing my ra to flare like it has been? the last month and a half have been the worse time since my dx. I am still rather new to this and just would like 1 week where I feel better!! Has anyone else experienced this? My rheumy wants me to try simponi and I have been approved but the side effects are rather scary, I am supposed to see a surgeon this week about the gall bladder and have put off starting the simponi until this is taken care of. Is anyone else taking simponi? and has anyone dealt with gall bladder issues and active ra?

thank you in advance to all who take the time to view and respond

I had my gallbladder out a few years ago.  It was the easiest surgery I have ever had.  Most people have it done as outpatient.  I ended up staying overnight due to some other issues.

The gallbladder could be adding to the RA flare.  Any time you feel bad, it adds stress to the body.  Hopefully the surgery won't be too far off.  If your gallbladder is diseased, you can only feel better once it's out.

did you have many problems after the surgery,  am still trying to work full time and have had quite a few bad days lately, My hands are so swollen and painful this morning I have to type with two fingers. I am on fmla but with this economy, its scary.

Nope...I was back to work within the week.  I felt so much better afterwards.
the last month and a half have been the worse time since my dx. I am still rather new to this and just would like 1 week where I feel better!!
What a terrible way to spend your birthday! I am so sorry you are feeling so miserable, unfortunately all I can do is send you my best wishes for a fast resolution and my hopes that you feel better soonest.

Happy birthday... ... ... ...Shug
Ugggh- I had the old fashioned surgery 25 years ago. It was not pleasant at all but the result was worth it.
Best of luck to you!

After five years of being miserable, having my gall bladder removed was the best thing I ever did.  The surgery was late afternoon and I came home the following morning around 9 am.  I was up and around the first day, driving on the second day and back to work on the fifth day.   Any pain or infection can instigate an arthritis flare (in my opinion).  Go for it. You will feel much better.
