Hi guys, I had to be assessed by physios yesterday at our hydrotherapy pool at our next suburb, it was quite upsetting as usual, realising what you can't do etc so I had a few tears but all in all it will be good for me, I am on a twice a week programme for 6 weeks to teach me what I should be doing for range of motion exercises etc in the pool. Its amazing what this disease can do to you, my chest muscles are so weak that I am not allowed in a depth of more than my waist height until I am strengthened up a bit, apparently the pressure of the water on the chest will be too much for me at this stage??????. I also was advised to update my walking stick to a different hand piece, and told to get two as I am leaning too much to the right and my right sided joints are giving me too much pain so I need to spread the weight more evenly, I am not getting two sticks though, I told them I would use my roller walker more and they said that would be better than one stick! So I go back tomorrow and start the pool work, 15 mins only until we see how I pull up, I had fun yesterday as I had to wait for hubby to come and pick me up so I got a taxi to the local shopping centre, had a lovely coffee and donut, mm mmm, then bought a new bed for my dog Alfie which he loves, some new shorts for hubby, new shoes for both boys and bath towels for them both too as they have grown so much they need bigger towels!!!! I didn't get anything for myself except a crossword book, and medicated shampoos! But I had fun and it was nice to get out for a while! Thanks for listening to me ramle, thought it would be nice to post this rather than bad news a again. Hugs Janie. Best of luck to you Janie- congrats on taking first steps to an exercise program!
Hi Janie, You may be pleasantly surprised by how much this will help you. Sure, it's slow going but over an extended period of time you may get some muscle mass back, your balance will improve and so will your strength and stamina. I think one of the most important physical things we lose is our stamina. The disease and the meds take it from us and it's really difficult to get back unless we have a routine physical activity. I do water exercises and I love them and I love what they've done for my strength and stamina. Good luck to you and I hope that you can continue the therapy for a long time. It will help. LindyThanks Lindy and WTBF. I appreciate your thoughts and comments, Janie.
Hi Janie, what good new!
Lindy was spot on when she spoke to stamina: physical endurance is as important, or maybe even more so, that other aspects of fitness.
The water is said to be the prime element in which to regain strength and stamina. It seems that I remember reading somewhere that you have a pool at home, if my memory is worth its weight, these sessions will give you the foundation of stamina and a few minutes every/every other day will soon bolster you physical strength and in turn you emotional peace of mind.
Good for you!
Hi Janie,
