Hey RA doc wants to start me on the new Simponi drug.  Anyone on this drug.  My Orencia is not working after about 2 1/2 years. Help she has already started the paperwork for insurance to approve.  Please let me know how you are doing what side effect have popped up and anything else you can think of.  Thanks

I'll be taking my 4th Simponi injection tomorrow. I can't really say if it's helping or not...my RD says we have to give it 6 months. I've not had any side effects, other than recent mouth sores that he thinks are probably from the methotrexate. I was also on Orencia before starting Simponi...I was on it for about a year and a half before it stopped working. Like I said, I really can't tell yet if the Simponi is going to work, as I still haven't been able to wean off the prednisone. I do remain hopeful though! Good luck!I am taking Simponi injections, or at least I was until last week when a sinus infection popped up. That would be my first and only side effect with it (it would have been my 4th injection, so on for 3 months).  The self-injectors are easy to use and for me caused no burning or injection site reactions.  On the other hand, I haven't seen any positive results yet, but I believe it can take up to 6 months (took me about 4 months to see results on Orencia, although it never got to a "good enough" level).I am doing my 3rd injection of Simponi today..don't know if it is doing anything.  Have had sinus infection and now sores on face.  Taking Valtrex for sores and doxycycline for sinus.  Ferritin was diagnosed low so watch for that-taking supplement.  Had run thru all the injectables and IV drugs so was excited this one came out and with no methotrexate needed.
Have had a bit of a time pushing the button on the injector.....  Johnson and Johnson are paying for the first 6 mos. so if this isn't offered be sure to find out why.
Good luck and remain positive!!!!
