My PMR so far .. | Arthritis Information

I am pretty new to all this as well (about 6 months). I had the flare up too not long after the 'miracle' of Pred. But my doc put it down to me being complacent - in other words because I 'felt' better, I perhaps done more than I should have done one day and certainly suffered for it the next!

Needless to say I learnt my lesson that one time.

I take a variety of other meds for other problems alongside the Pred including Tramadol daily and have never had a problem. That's me though.

Do you mind if I ask how old you are?
Hi there < dont know your name . ..sorry ..im 62 ..they say that most folk over the age of 50 are the most likely ones to be affected by this horrible affliction ..today i am better than yesterday..not sure why this happens ..maybe i will have some more answers to my post later ..thanks for replying ..i do hope i get some more support ..i wonder if diet plays an important part .. Michael Ok thankyou mrs uk for the info i will have a look at the site you posted ..Micky Hi Mickey, I will give you the short version of what I posted earlier that went into cyberspace....
I take tramadol with Pred .... no problems. I also take Panadol Osteo, Plaquenil and Methotrexate amongst others.
With PMR and exercise it seems to be one day at a time. At times you will get benefits and others more pain. Fatigue also plays a huge part ... you will learn to 'listen' to your body and learn patience ( that's the hardest when you get so sick of just being sick and tired) !

I'm 64 and have had Pred now since I was 59.....too long. I'm down to 3mg Pred with the help of Methotrexate. I have a painful wedge fracture , osteoporosis and need to be able to manage without Pred.
Ask away any questions or simply to vent! I'm away now for the next 2 weeks and we have a good group here that will guide you. The reumatoid arthritis board is also worth having a look at or asking questions in. A lot of the RA people are on Pred. ect. Be pleased we don't have RA.
Bye for now, Lyn

Hi Michael

Welcome to the board and ask away as what one person does not know another will have an answer for you.

We have a two great gentlemen who check in from time to time and they are a great help because it seems some of the symptoms are different from men and women.  Also RDSwede has a great method of reducing pred when you are down to 10 mg and ready to reduce.  As to feeling down, that is part of poly and if you have other medical problems that will only make things feel worse.  When I got depressed that is when I found my first polymyalgia board and the people there picked me up by the bootstraps and I felt so much better having someone to talk to that knew what I was going through so do not hesitate to ask away.
You are going to have good days and bad days and on the bad days try to be easier on youself.  I think, as far as exercising, you should not overdo things.  I found a walk was as good as anything.  The best person to ask about other meds is your pharmacist.  I know many people take painkillers along with the pred and are fine.  I tried to stay away from anything like that.  You should not have to endure any pain.  If you have the correct dose of pred you should be ok.  Stress will cause some of the discomfort also.  Inform yourself as much as possible.  There is some great information if you google polymyalgia rheumatica.

Now, as to your final question.  There is nothing you can do, as of right now, to speed up your recovery time...just know that it will end.  Once I got that through my head and sort of went with it, it made things easier for me.  Two ladies I know are trying LDN with great results but it will take some time to see if Drs. will start prescribing it.  For now I wish you much luck and try to pamper youself until things get under contol.

Take good care.
