update on nasal flu mist | Arthritis Information

I posted last week that my GP gave me the nasal mist vaccination for flu, which I afterward found out was not recommended for RA patients on MTX, or people over 49.  I saw my rheumy today.  He says since it's been a full week that I should be fine, since I haven't displayed any symptoms.

He also assured me that the latest information he has seen is that live vaccine is potentially sick-making for people taking 20 MG MTX (I am on 17.5) and prednisone, which I do not take.

Having said that, he agrees that it's not a good idea to have the live flu vaccine in our situation.  And I'm still well over 49 years old!  Frankly, I am disappointed not to have gotten a call from my GP with an apology for her error.  I thought she was better than that.
Sorry you had such a scare Bluehour.  I have been debating the issue on whether to have the shot or not.  I guess I will make up my mind when the time arrives.Hi Bluehour-

I'm glad you're not sick and everything turned out well for you. I asked my RA dr. today if I should take the H1N1, she said what they're telling people right now is (as you've found out) to get the regular flu shot but they want to wait to make sure this new H1N1 shot is not a live virus first.  Just think, you have nothing to worry about now!
