Remicade anyone? | Arthritis Information

Hello, I am 25 years old with one hip replacement at the age of 23. I have RA. I am still in bad pain daily. My doctor has suggested Remicade. Just wanted a real life persons view on this medicine (not a movie star).Tara,   Are you around.  I know she takes Remicade and many others.  Be patient, you will get your question answered.  I am a Enbrel user.  Welcome to the board.  I took Remicade for 10 months while waiting on the Enbrel list. It worked okay for me. I prefer Enbrel. But I did like only having to deal with it every other month. I would take a book in and some crosswords and relax.

Thanks,

Any info is good info.

I have been on Enbrel for 4 months.  It did not start working until about 2 weeks ago, but I have been almost pain free the last two weeks.  I take 300mgs once per month in my RD's office.  I also take 20mgs methotrxate.

I am on Remicade. It  worked very well at first, then  wore off. I take it every month now, and am not sure if it will wear off before my next infusion. If it continues to work as it has the past  4 or 5 days I will be thrilled.

I have very little morning stiffness. I need to take an ultram late in the afternoon, because I am doing more.

I am very pleased with it.  The actual infusion  is not a problem, I take a book, watch tv, chat with others getting the infusion, or take a nap.

I was on Remicade for over a year and loved it - I ended up going every 4 weeks at the max dose and then one time it didn't work and from there had to change meds.  I loved going for the infusions - I used it as down time, I'd read, nap, do puzzles, what ever but it was my time. I felt so good from the first infusion on and wish I felt that good now.  Good luck.  Hugs and good vibes.

Think you'll like it, I hope so!  Like they say, it's really good down time, something we can all use.  I didn't think it was going to help but by the third infusion, felt like a different person ,.   Good Luck

Hi-sorry so late in replying to your post. I have been
taking Remicade for about 11 months. It took a
while for me to really tell the difference, but now I am
really seeing the benefits. We've done some
adjusting on the dosage and frequency, and I think
that we have now found the right combination.

I get my treatments in the doctors office in the
'infusion' room. There are usually about 3 other
peole there and the nurse. Everyone is really nice
and the atmosphere is very comforting. I haven't
noticed any side effects either, other than being
drowsy after wards.

You've probably made your decision by mow (didn't
finish reading all the posts    ) but wanted to give
you my thoughts.

Been on Remicade 5 years. It has helped. So far no problems other than a headache - so I take benedryl with the IV, which fixes it. I wonder if the benedryl would have worked for my Enbrel headache?  Hi, I was on Remicade for about a year and had good luck with it as long as I was taking MTX with it.  Ended up switching to Humira after switching doctors and not having the time because of my job to do the remicade infusions.  I was at my best with Humira, MTX and Voltaren (sp?) but liver function tests and then a liver biopsy took away the MTX since that was causing the liver problems.

I am now on Enbrel and not having any luck at all.  I moved to a new area and on new insurance and the insurance required taking Enbrel before going back to Humira even though I had a good history with Humira.

I'd go back on Remicade if I had the time or was required to, but prefer the shots I can do myself.

Hi Sharae, Just returning to the board and read your Remicade request. I was on Remicade for a few years which seemed to control the Ra along with Methotrexate. However I did get a reaction which started after the second time I was infused. First I experienced what I presume is like hot flashes. Then after a about an hour or so I would get very cold. That night I would experience a flu like condition. After that I was OK. I have since switched to Humira which is self injected. I have not had any reaction and it is working quite well. At least there are a few options. Good luck!

my rd gave me the option of all three biologics, and I chose remicade because of all the problems I'd read about with not receiving it on time, and/or it not being kept refrigerated and made ineffective.  So even though I live 1-1/2 hrs. away I go there for my infusion.  I've been doing really good on it.  the rd recently told me that his remicade patients seem to do better for longer periods, but he really didn't try to influence me one way or another.  And so far, no side effects.

Good luck,

Remicaid, My 15 yr old son has just been recommended to take IV infusions of Remicaid for Croh's Disease. He has stomach pain flare ups, seems always tired & just wants to veg out. Any other parent with similar symptoms & have any tired Remicaid for their kids?

Thanks Julie
