Cellulitis-been a while | Arthritis Information

I have not been posting much but had something happen that I wonder if it is more common with RA people.

Diagnosed with RA a couple months back and have my appt again in Nov to do one more round of blood work before taking anything.  Dr wants to be sure what is going on with me as my family dr first found I was RF+, and very high ESR.  Sent me to specialist.  I did not pull the same results the first time RF-, high ESR's but I had just come off prednisone since my family dr had prescribed before I saw the specialist.  i went to see him when I was feeling fine and having just come off pred I did not complain too much;-)  I had forgot how tired and sore I do get.  Well next appt I did remember.  Did more blood work and this time high ESR, CRP high, and RF+.  Now I go back in November as mentioned and he thinks he will start me off on plaquenil?

Any how, fast forward to this past week.  I got bit by a bee or wasp on Sunday and immediately had swelling in my arm.  Just figured it was normal swelling.  Wen tto bed and by next morning my arm was as big as a big melon and was hot, red and swollen 3/4 of my arm.  Went to hospital and immediately put on iv drugs.  I have cellulitis.  Still on the iv till Sunday (what a pain carrying this bag around and have lines out of me---feel so sorry for those who always have these).

Any ways, is cellulitis something those with RA get more often?  I really do not want to go through this again........but it just not make sense how I would get this so quickly and so severe except for maybe something else in my body was not working right?
[QUOTE=craz4dogs]I have had cellulitis quite a few times.  Actually pre-orbital cellulitis(3 times).  I was told that RA does make it more likely to catch things-mainly because your body is constanly fighting one illness-and you get tired.  Plus...many of the meds. affect your immune system.

Unfortunately, I was also told that once you get it once, you are more prone to get it again.

Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks spelunker and rocckyd---guess this may be another joy of RA...............
