Arthritis Information -Is this Arthritis? Really?

Well if it showed up on the exray it must have been there for awhile. I know it seems related. Maybe it was already there and the surgery caused it to flare up. I am sorry this is happening. WHat kind of arthritis is it?Hello all.

I have just been told I have arthritis and I am having a little trouble understanding:

I am 53 yrs old and had a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. The day after surgery, when I got out of bed, I noticed a pain in my lower back, right side. The pain increased when I stopped taking the post surgery pain meds. I've since had a back x-ray and was told it was arthritis.

This seems strange to me: Not to have pain before surgery, developing pain not related to the surgery, (I speculated and thought I had pulled a muscle when moved from gurney to hospital bed?) and, then be told it's arthritis. Now, granted, I have had back problems before, ( not in that same spot) and a family history of arthritis: but this pain came on out of no where, just after a hysterectomy.

Coincidence or not?
Thanks in advance for your attention.
Hi- I think the Dr said osteoarthritis, not really sure. I'm still having trouble connecting the dots between post-op back pain and a diagnosis of arthritis. I had never had pain there before. Is this how it happens? I am not an expert on Osteo arthritis. I do believe for women that it gets worse after menopause. Of course I have an Aunt that got Osteo pretty young. Everyone is different. I think we all look for the answers and causes. Usually we never really know what caused it. Hereditary often is a big factor. It is alot to take in. I am sure you got surgery with the intent of feelling better. I hope you feel better soon and get some answers from your doctor.
