Hi, new here | Arthritis Information

Hello

I found out about twenty minutes ago from my mother in tears that my brother has AS. He has come back to live with me and my parents (I'm 19 years old, he's 24) and I'm somewhat shaken by this.

I'm hoping to learn some things about his condition here in hopes of helping him and comforting my mother.

Are there any recommended readings I could look at or any tips for accommodating him that you could share?

I had never heard of AS before this, so please forgive my lack of understanding of the disease. I hope you understand my reasons for joining.

Thank you for your time.
Hello Remaining.

I am sorry but I cannot help in your search to learn more about AS.. but I'm sure someone in this form can assist you.

I do support you in your concern for your brother and your parents.

@ OP:

G'day mate,

Your next best bet is to probably google this condition, your brother is lucky to have such a caring family.
For 1 AS isn't a life sentence and it isn't a disability if treated properly, I personally can't tell you the best treatment for your brother, only he can over time.

Things may be confusing for you and your family for a short period of time, I assume your brother has been referred to a specialist and any questions and concerns should most defenitely be put forward to him.

Just 1 question, do you know if your brother has HLA-B27 Gene ? Also was it actually confirmed that he has AS. Yes AS can restrict somethings, but staying active, staying healthy will improve things alot and keep chances of complications to a minimum.

Here's a link that may help your search alittle bit more, try not read too much into complications as this may only cause anxiety, the chances of complications are slim, however symptoms should always be put forward to a doctor.
