LBaker2009-10-25 08:27:34Are you serious?  I think the individuals who are on pain medications prefer to keep their information about their meds between themselves and their doctor/s.  I hope no one participates in this survey.  It's no one else's business.  LindyLindy, I am not going to argue with you.  It is a personal choice whether or not to share information about experiences with medication.  That said, I have had over 200 responses to the request for participation in the last two weeks.  Some people choose to share their experiences for a lot of different reasons.  You may not choose to participate but please don't promote failure of the project.  It is important to the people who choose to participate.   LBaker
I'm with Lindy on this.  I feel rather sorry for the individuals who aren't Internet savvy enough to guard their privacy and security.  I would discourage anyone from opening and completing the "surveymonkey.com" online screening form.

I don't understand.,..what could happen if one was to take part in this survey?
Kelstev, it might be legitimate, it might not.  I'm just not a big proponent of faceless online or telephone surveys that ask for personal information with no guarantee it won't be misused (names, phone numbers and addresses sold to mailing lists despite protests by the survey source it won't be done), potentially latches onto a person's computer with "spyware", etc.  I don't think it's professional or ethical to fish for participants on a medical support forum, by offering money.  My husband and I have already been the victims of identity theft that fortunately we caught early, the world now is very connected which is good in some ways yet that leaves us open to being victimized by that same connectivity.

Edited to add:  these are just my feelings on the subject, nobody has to act on them, I'm not trying to be offensive, am simply wary of such approaches and offers.  I won't be returning to this thread.  Good luck, to all, in whatever works for them.
oh..ok..I understand that.  I thought there was more to it that I wasn't seeing.  I remember a few yrs ago, there was a survey that was posted here that gave 0.00 to do a survey.  I did it and so did a few others and I received my cheque from them as promised.
I'd probably do this one as well, but I'm not from the US.
Kel...a lot of those surverys done here in Canada sell all the information to Lord knows who and then the phone starts ringing with the telemarketers.LBaker,

There is a nasty group here that tracked down a couple of members personal information and posted it on the internet for the sole purpose of terrorizing those members and their families because the group didn't agree with those members. As sick as what they did is, I guess most of us are now "once bitten, twice shy".

AND YOU WERE ONE OF THEM DON'T FORGET THAT.
I understand the concerns of the forum with regard to posts such as mine.  I can only state that I am a health outcomes researcher,  and I am conducting a legitimate project to collect information on experiences with medications for chronic pain.

Your information is never used, sold or disclosed to anyone beyond the few people on the project team.

I received an email from you...waiting to find out now if you'll be able to do the phone survey with me since I'm in Canada.I don't care how you gloss it over or how many titles you have attached to your name; the bottom line your request isn't ethical.

Would you go to a rheumatologist office and wait outside his door and ask his patients to participate in your survey?  Would you stand in the fresh produce section of the grocery store with your clipboard and ask perfect strangers about their pain medication usage?  You come to an arthritis forum and expect people to welcome you and give you personal information because you're reassuring us that your intentions are all good and to our benefit.... eventually.  You're using a public survey site that just about anyone can set up for usage.

Kel, I'm sure that they'll be able to do a survey with you, even though you're in Canada.  Why wouldn't they be able to?  I suggest you think about this a little longer before you give them personal information.

You might have received a more positive response if the survey had come from Health Outcomes Solutions instead of surveymonkey.  HOS certainly has more substance and credibility than surveymonkey.  Anyone can tell the forum that they're doing a survey by Health Outcomes Solutions.  I'm disappointed in how HOS has setup this survey, if indeed they have.  It's not credible and surveys are only as good as their credibility.
Why have you not got this information up front.
This is non professional when you ask people to participate in something then present them with no information what so ever.

This is what you get at the start.
