question addisons? | Arthritis Information

I feel just fine. Well my ususal crappy self. I noticed a bunch of tiny white spots. Could be the start of Vitiligo. So I looked up causes autoimmune, thyroid, or beginning signs of Addisons. Yikes I hope not.

I have not been on prednisone for over a month almost two months. So I guess my question is for those that have addisons from stopping prednisone did you notice right from the start or did it creep up on you?

Anyway I will go to the gp tomorrow and have some bloodwork done.
Hi Milly, I was absolutely the sickest I've ever been a week after stopping Pred.  I tapered for about 8 months so it wasn't a quick stop.  My doctors took one look at me and I immediately started 7.5 mg. of Pred. and felt normal in about 24 hours.  I'm now down to 5mg. and that seems to be where I'll stay for the rest of my life.  There are lots of reasons for little white spots.  Hope you get some answers.  LindyI agree with Lin, you know RIGHT off. For me I had this feeling of being there, but not being there..very confused, very dizzy all the time, and very not myself..no energy. Hope you find your cause soon! Hi Milly, I am sorry you have racked up one more hurdle to surmount.

My adrenal insufficiency was surgically induced so my input to your current predicament is nil-to-none. However, my dermatologist indicated that Addison's disease as well as other adrenal insufficiences usually induced hyperpigmentation not hypopigmentation. I have a definite facial mask that has been attributed to my marked adrenal insufficiency.

If my memory serves, always a doubtful proposition, thyroid dysfunction is more likely to cause hypopigmentation than is any form of adrenal insufficiency.

I send you all my best wishes for concrete answers from you upcoming doctor's appointment.

Cheers, Shug

Well I went blonde last month. Too much white hair in the roots so it shows up less with blonde hair. My gums are white I thought thrush maybe. Some more private issues and then i just noticed that more things other than the white spots pointed to Vitiligo. Yes there are other things it could be besides Addisons. It was just that when reading about Addisons it covered more of the type of Vitiligo that I believe I have. I just never put it all together until today. It has apparently been coming on for awhile. LOL The things that we ignore.

Just things that bother me from a vanity point of view. I never even knew that Vitiligo was autoimmune, or a sign of anything. I thought people were just born with it. I do know that scleroderma has some skin coloration changes associated with it. I do not believe that mine is that type. Certainly worth getting some bloodwork done over to make sure my thyroid and other adrenal glands are working properly. More commonly it is associated with thyroid problems just it said it could be a beginning sign of Addisons. Or I guess it could just be a skin thing. Not related to my thyroid or anything.
Well honestly it takes my shots eight to ten days to kick in. I may wait till I have flu coverage before walking into the doctors office. Tomorrow is day five. Scince I feel fine a few more days will not hurt anything. I always go to the hospital lab to get bloodwork. For some reason my insurance pays all of it if I get my labs at the hospital. Hardly any of it if I get it at the GP office. So I would have to risk getting the flu twice. I think I will slide on the side of caution.Well I am not sure because I have the sort of vitiligo that could be associated with bad stuff. This I know because the girls no longer have brown eyes. So I think Addisons is one of the better things that you can have from this type of wide spread vitiligo. It could even be caused by lung cancer. Maybe I will risk getting the flu to find some answers.Shug as always you are correct. I guess the difference being primary and secondary. Even in secondary goiter and vitiligo often appear along with the secondary Addison's. I have no idea.
I guess Michale Jackson had vitiligo and Lupus. This is all new to me. By itself I would not be too concerned. Just it tends to have an association with other illnesses. I shall refrain from future googling as any more and I shall have to be sadated. I did not expect this much anxiety from looking up white spots on arms. Of which I must have many. My arms are simply covered like a rash. Of course there is no discomfort. I just feel my body is trying to tell me something.

The rollercoaster ride continues. If I ever get off I am staying away from amusement parks and rides. LOL
Milly, you need to run, not walk but run, to the nearest dermatologist. Making a diagnosis of vitiligo is relatively simple, a personal and familial history, a physical exam, a black light skin survey, and sometimes a small punch biopsy.

If you think you have Addison's you need an immediate appointment with both an endocrinologist and a urological surgeon.

If you have had this for longer than 10-14 days, it sounds as if you have, you need to start treatment yesterday.

The internet is a wonderful research resource, but it has been my experience that self-diagnosing from the internet can be both risky and foolhearty.

Best wishes.
