palandromic rhuematism is a rare form of arthritis where there are attacks on usually one or two joints at a time which can last hours to days usually building in intesity and then fading.  The attacks can come every few months or days.  The attacks themselves do not cause any permanent damage to the joints however, having suffered them - (this is the way my RA started) they are SO painful it could almost make you faint.  About 40, 50 percent of people who have palandromic rheumatism go on to develop RA at a later date - there is a high prevalance of anti ccp antibodies in people with palandromic rheumatism who go on to develop RA which indicates that they are related.  P.R is thought to be an abortive version of RA.  PR is by far the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life other than and possibly on a par with childbirth. I THOUGHT IT WAS WORSE THAN LABOUR AND I HAD 21 HR NO DRUGS...................TERESA

     Thanks for the info Pat

does it affect joints on the same side or example both feet/hands or is just random?just random not mathcing on bothe sides could be lft ankle rt knee  just jumps around side to side.teresaIt moves around from joint to joint during one flare up? It sounds bad, it does not match my symptoms though. I feel like I am always checking to see if I have been misdiagnosed or something, just in case there is something out there besides RA that acts like RA, but has a magical cure. I can dream cant I?  I dont think polymyalgia is anything that one would wish for though....worse than child labor huh? OUCH. Sorry to hear some of you guys have had to deal with that one.
