Shaving | Arthritis Information

Hi,
I'm a design engineering student creating a product to help people with arthritis shave.  I would really appreciate it if you could spare just a couple of minutes to quickly post problems, if any, you have when shaving - these can be anything at all!

Thanks for your time!
ok...are you looking to improve things for men shaving their faces or women shaving their legs.

However both have essentially the same issues...reach, angles, and grip.  To be able to successfully shave either you must be able to reach the body part in question with the implement.  They are not long enough to compensate for reach issues for example if you can't bend your elbow or extend your shoulder.   The handles on most razors are narrow and are very difficult for those with limited grip to grasp.  Finally the razor head itself does not have enough swivel to accomadate those of us who can not move their wrists.

Yeah they are the areas I'm targeting at the moment.

Thanks buckeye, that's great.
Posts with very small details are also helpful, like being unable to push buttons on an electric razor, or problems with plugging in chargers or changing blades etc.  While I think I have an understanding of the problems, I don't want to assume and then get it wrong.

I really appreciate your time!
Well as a female with  hip and spine issues, I want a razor that has a  long handle (like the length of a back scratcher), because bending over or lifting my legs is difficult.  A moving head that will be forgiving as shave over ankle bones, and knees would be good as well.  The grip should be large and comfortable.I think for women the product should come with a hunky male to shave legs for us.... Thanks guys, great info, keep it coming please!  Is there a consensus on electric vs. wet shave?

(Also, if anyone is interested I can post my final design here when I'm done in May)

For me, I quit using an electric shaver back in 60's!   Not really popular for women I know.

An electric razor for women has to be able to withstand use in the shower (waterproof), have a non-slip grip, and also withstand being dropped repeatedly. the electrics dont seem to shave as close as a blade at least to me they don't.  I'd rather use a blade I agree with needing a longer, thicker handle and a swively head. (I also like the hunky helper idea. Could he clean the tub when we're done? )

edited because idea is not spelled with an "l"leila2009-10-29 13:44:11
... Could he clean the tub when we're done?
the electrics dont seem to shave as close as a blade at least to me they don't.  I'd rather use a blade
I hear ya... but I always manage to cut myself at least once and usually three or four times when using a "real" razor.  I usually just use Nair these days, or if I have the time, use wax.
Thanks everyone, your responses really help me!  If you could spare 5 minutes, I'd really appreciate if you could fill out the survey here:

Mostly multiple choice so won't take long.  Thanks again!!
