Any Concrete Proof Of PMR For Youngies? | Arthritis Information

Hi All

Bit short notice and I know I should have asked this earlier but here goes anyway. I am due to see rheumy tomorrow and I will be told, again, that I am too young for PMR altough my GP has diagnosed and stuck to this diagnosis. My question is, after searching the web for hours on end and having come up with nothing conclusive, has anyone got a link to any site or publication or anything really that clearly states people under 50 CAN get PMR? To refresh memories I am 41.

Thanks everyone

Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) Survey the results section might help.

We have someone (Male in Northern Ireland) aged 27.  Women in our support groups mid-forties onward.   The statistics they are using are out of date.

My hospital docs in Germany were happy (if that's the right word) to diagnose my symptoms as PMR with GCA when I was 48 and I had had the symptoms for three years prior to this.  My new GP sent me to a rheumatology hospital department as an in-patient for thorough testing and diagnosis after years of tinkering with pain meds of various kinds and PMR is what they came up with.

Best regards,
C.
Thanks to you both. Will be interesting to see what they say today.Sooooo frustrating. There is absolutely nothing I can find with regard to anyone under 50. Even all the info I got from the new UK site only refers to PMR in older people. There must be so many younger people out there suffering with PMR that are simply being overlooked.

Oh well rant over.

hiya... just google  'younger patients polymyalgia', you'll get a 24 year old.  On the UK site there's a survey which asks people which age group they fit into, and you will find some younger ones there also.  The other problem is some doctors don't seem to want to diagnose it if you're young, so the age band will never lower if no-one under 50 is classed with it!
Good luck,
Sal (diagnosed at 51)
