I have not been on this forum for quite some time.
I have been doing so much better physically. I take my meds and they seem to keep things under control. The biggest plus I have done for myself is exercise.

I swear for me it is the key to keep me moving. I am not going to a gym , but what I have found has worked for me are walking videos. They are by Leslie Sansone called walking away the pounds. She has a 1 mile, 2 mile and three mile walk. I have worked up to a 2 mile walk...it combines cardio and strength exercising in very doable video. I started the 1 mile and to my surprise I worked up to the 2 mile rather quickly.

It has really made me feel alive again. Increased my energy...I choose to do them mid morning after I get the stiffness worked out. I don't always "pump up the pace" but I do keep moving. I ordered the video off eBay...got 1 DVD with the 1 and 2 mile walk away the pound express video delivered to my door for $ 8.00. Money well spent for me.
Just wanted to share and maybe encourage someone to give it a try. It helped me tremendously.

Best Wishes,
Lisa

Now let's see if the group that turned on you here last time will do so again.  You'll stay though, you seem desperate for friendship (maybe attention) and obviously can't stay away from here, I guess you like the drama.

How's Gavin?

edited for major typos
Lisa0nline2009-11-06 12:52:19 [QUOTE=#1inflamedOnline]hello, i am a newbie,,,,,,,,,,,,i agree about walking , i was given a book called walking medicine, it is absolutely wonderful, maybe your library can get it for you.  a nurse gave it to me and i keep it handy for a re read. i walk 3 miles a day and i am 75 soon 76 and it keeps me moving the rest of day. i do not have ra, but have pmr. my mother had very serious ra..............so i am familiar with it.  "keep walking"

HI

I've never bought a walking DVD.. I dont' see how watching a TV can help in walking.. something I do away from my house??
Please explain.  Do you use a treadmill??

Babs,
It is like anyother workout video. You walk in place ( for the most part)  but you do kick backs , and sidesteps and a few other moves that engage other muscles. You also engage your upper body muscles at times for 8 to 12 count beats. She measures the miles on the screan so it is motivating to keep going to the finish. I love walking outside...but this is a work out walk....basically low impact cardio.

As for you Audrey...my BEAUTIFUL Grandson Gavin has turned 1 year old September. He has grown like a weed. This is a public forum...I go and come as I please..
Best Wishes everyone...
Lisa
#1inflamedOnline2009-11-06 06:40:33Hi Lisa, I find working out is crucial to pain management and also my mental health - it really brightens your mood.

Babs - "walking" DVDs are actually low impact programs of marching and walking forward and back, strolling side to side, some add slightly dancy moves like mambos and cha-chas, with pumping arm motions to get the heart rate up gently.  You can see samples at www.collagevideo.com and search for Leslie Sansone.  Ellen Barrett is my personal low impact, feel good exercise guru.  Her workouts leave you sweaty but reinvigorated.
Green~Tara,
Any Ellen Barrett videoes you recomend to start with?
I Have done all of her Dvd's and have lossed about 25 lb's doing them.  exercise IS the key to helping us... it has really helped me, I'm 53 and can do the 4mile in an hour. everyone should try to do some exercise, the more you do the stronger you will feel....[QUOTE=Green~Tara]I find working out is crucial to pain management and also my mental health - it really brightens your mood.

My Beautiful Grandson Gavin . His 1 year old photo. He is such a Joy, he is the greatest motivation I have to keep moving. I excersise to feel good so I can enjoy him and life again.

They have taught him baby sign launguage. It amazes me the speed he learned it and the extent of the words he signs. I am learning it with him.lol.

Thought I'd share...seems it was only the other day he was so tiny..

He's a cutie!What a cutie pie!!

Glad to hear you're doing so well Lisa.
