As you know glucosamine is technically a form of an amino sugar that plays a major role in cartilage formation and repair. But

what is a great Glucosamine?

I heard you could get it from eating lots of SPAM Perhaps the better question is: Does glucosamine actually work?

Here are some links that discuss this:

Rather than glucosamine, you might want to check out PRP [Platelet Rich Plasma] for the cartilage.I've heard that those with shell fish allergies should not take glucosamine. Is that correct?Because it is made from shellfish shells it stands to reason if you are allergic to shelfish you can't take it !!

I have one question though, it has been proven as a real aid to cartilage formation & repair in animals so why wouldn't it be the same with humans ??

There are forms available from non-shellfish sources. A telephone call to the manufactures of a few well-known and widely available brands can provide more information on the non-shellfish formulations.
