Almost 26 hrs & still not seperated ... the teams of surgeons say it will take as long as it takes.

The girls are ok so far though & the world news is camped outside the Royal Children's Hospital here in Melbourne waiting for news.

This is ground breaking surgery & we are all hoping the girls will make it through !!

"It's going very well," anaesthetist Dr Ian McKenzie told reporters outside Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital.  "Basically the kids are going very well, the team's going very well... and they're not separated just yet.  It's very fiddly." Dr McKenzie would not put a time frame on when the twins would be separated after their groundbreaking operation began about 8.30am (10.30am NZT) on Monday.  Dr McKenzie said the girls' general condition was "really good" and had improved as doctors worked to separate them.

"We were holding our breath about the general condition of the children ... and at this stage their general condition is really good and both have actually got better as they got disconnected," he said.  "From that point of view that's been great news."

Dr McKenzie was sticking to the odds given before surgery that Trishna and Krishna have a 25 percent chance of complete recovery.  But he said he was an optimist and said the twins had got this far without problems."Some of the things we're worried about are in the past but, to make it clear, it's not a 'gimme' so I'll stick to those odds," he said.

"The bones are now disconnected ... and a whole lot of things we were worried about are getting better and better as we go. "But on the other hand, it's not over yet ... and there are still some life-threatening things happening."
