Third day on 20 mg prednisone with almost complete relief of symptoms (15 mg didn't work)

How long did you guys stay on the initiaL beneficial dose before starting to decrease the prednisone?
Hi moishe,

On http://www.pmr-gca-northeast.org.uk/index.php you can find a lot of valuable information and also something called "Our stories".  I have sent one story where you can read how I tapered after starting on 20 mg just like you.
Good luck
Ragnar
thanks so much Ragnar.
I have printed your "story" and will use it as a guide.
Hi Moishe

I must admit I have not posted "my story" as yet.  I am over 1 year since last symptoms  so it is possible to shake old pmr.
We are not exactly sure how many years I had this before being diagnosed but I know at least 2.  I started on 20 mgs of pred and had relief almost immediately.  It took maybe 4 months before I was able to make my first reduction successfully but instead of going to 15 mgs I could only go to 17 1/2 mgs.  When I was more comfortable with the reductions my Dr. let me reduce when I felt I could.  I followed Ragnar's method and had made it to 7 1/2 mgs when I got sick (like a flu) and after a couple of days I knew pmr was gone.  It did leave fibro and some other types of arthritis in its wake.
Keep asking questions as each one is different but we all have or had the same illness so someone, I am sure, can help you out.

Good luck and take care.

I am usually on a dose for at least two months before my doctor tells me to start tapering..She always tells me to listen to my body and that I can go up and down when I need to...I have been on Prednisone for over one year now and am on 5mgs...She told me to decrease to 2.5mg on October 21, 2009, but then she got my ESR and CRP back, which had become elevated again so she call and told me to stay on the 5mg.. I go back in December but I feel like I really need to go back up to 7.5 or maybe even 10 again.. I am hurting all over again but I really want to be off of this stuff..
