My mother | Arthritis Information

My mother who will be turning 81 this Christmas, has to have knee surgery. She has several replacements and many revisions. Apparently there is nothing left of her knee cap. The surgeon said her only alternative is surgery or a wheelchair. He said it is dangerous to try to walk on her knee the way it is. I am sad for my mom. They do not know what the outcome will be, Surgeon said there is nothing left he is going to try an old hinge part that they don’t even use anymore, but if that does not work they will have to use a steal rod and fuse her leg stiff. I wish I could of been at the appointment, my dad was , but they together get things confused at times. I will find out more this trip to Florida.
Anyhow, surgery is scheduled for Dec 15th unless there is a cancellation then they will move it up... prayers would be appreciated. I feel a little froggy about this surgery.
Thanks,
Lisa
Hi Lisa.....wow, surgery at your mom's age must have you a little nervous.  I'll be praying for her and her doctors.  And your fam too.  You're mom must be a pretty strong willed lady, to choose this route.  I guess she's been in a lot of pain though, I hope this gets the outcome you're hoping for.Thank you Linnen...
She has been in so much pain for so many years...she has advanced arthritis throughout her body. Is very sad.

As a child I remember her wincing in pain at times just stepping up a small curb...I shamefully remember thinking .."awe come on it is a little step"..I completely understand now where she was coming from.

I appreciate the prayers.

Orthopedic surgery is no fun!  I will keep your mom in my prayers.  I know she will do great!

Phats

I'm sorry Lisa, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.  Can you make a consult appt. with the doctor and your mom just to get the facts straight?  If nothing else, it may help to put your mind a bit more at ease.  It might be good to get a second opinion also, just for that extra peace of mind.

I hope all goes well for you all.

Waddie  Hi Lisa, keep your chin up, she will be fine, I will add you both to my prayers, hugs Janie.
