Hey, Star! I'm here. :)
How is your grandma doing today? (I don't have any experience with blood sugar numbers so I can't offer any advice.)

And how are you, friend? Is your blood sugar, weight loss, and pred taper doing/going well? What about your Mom, is she doing better? You have a lot going on!
Hey, Star,

I didn't even see this thread until someone bumped it up this morning. Guess there were a lot of threads yesterday.

I'm diabetic, too. One of things I've noticed is if I'm in "flare" mode, the inflammation causes my glucose to go up maybe 20 points. One day I was in real flare mode and got 4-5 shots of Kenalog in my joints and my glucose to jump 60-80 points [but it comes down in a few days]. Stress has a HUGE impact on the numbers. [And holiday times ARE stressful.]

So like SnowOwl said, sometimes there's just no rhyme or reason.

I'm new to the board so I don't know what other issues are going on in your family, but I sure hope they're improving!
thnx everyone...for finally replying to my post :)

yeah i think she might be stressed, she has to get ALL the thanksgiving food this year by herself and my mom usually helps but she cant this year :(

but i called her today and she sayd that she seems alright today, so i assume everythings good

well, for me, my blood sugar is awesome, doesnt go high anymore and i dont check as often anymore, finger pricks hurt and if it doesnt go high, it seems like a waste of time

didnt lose any more weight sadly :(

pred taper is good, at 10 mg now yay

oh and my mom is doing...bad-ish :(
her ankle hurts ALOT and stuff
she has a boot type thing now and she gets it off in 4 weeks, then has a smaller boot thing

so, she just sits and relaxes

me too, i sit and relax lol
i finished my first story, called Toxic Marbles
i finished it about 11 last night, i was tired
it's about 14,000 words and almost 45 pages

i felt so EUPHORIC once i was done, cuz it was the first story i actually completed
i was happyz lol

well, this was long....but u asked how things were lately :P
Star,

I did that boot routine on the RIGHT leg.......which meant I had to take it off when I got in the car to drive and put it back on after I parked. What a pain in the tush! But it did the trick for me. [I had tendinitis.]  Tell your mom if she finds scuff marks on the floor, a tiny, tiny bit of Comet on a cloth will take it off.

You might let your Gram know that it's not important to have all the usuals this year.....that next year you can make up for it. That might take some pressure off her.

What is "Toxic Marbles" about? My imagination is going wild. But congratulations on completing it. What a success!
Sam12342009-11-22 15:40:48yup i'll tell her that 2moro maybe

Toxic Marbles is about well, idk how to explain it but at the end, is a poem i made specially for the story

heres the poem:

These toxic marbles

They brought you memories

They made you smile and laugh

They brought tears to your eyes

These toxic marbles

They make me cry

It was my last way to say good-bye

I’ll miss you little buddy

Don’t forget your toxic marbles

so maybe u'll think of wat it might be about...but thats the easiest and shortest way to describe it
Nice poem, Star!Star, I know nothing about Blood sugar stuff, but I do know about broken feet, toes and ankles.  THEY HURT...big time,  It's very hard to walk,  She should be feeling better soon.  It took me 2 weeks to be able to get around without too much pain.    Good to hear that you are doing better.Toxic marbles that make you smile and laugh.......successful MTX treatment?Hey Star...I have a granddaughter who has type 1 diabetes but her numbers are way different than yours so when I look at yours I think "Holy cow, those are high."  I will take the time one day to figure it all out.
Take care of yourself, your Mom and your Grandma.
thnx for all the replies

yeah i like the poem too; i write alot of poems lately, maybe ill post some more later...

yeah i think my grandma's blood sugar is OK now...maybe btw she has type 2
Star,

If she had diabetes all her life, since she was a youngster, odds are it's Type I. Most people who  develop diabetes later in life are Type II.

Everyone Else:
You've see me write about my love of Kenalog injections in my joints. If you have several on the same day, they can send your glucose up about 60+ points above your normal. It comes down in a few days as the body absorbs the medication.
she's only had it for a few years lol. since she was about 67 lolz

i didnt say she had it her whole life...i dont think
Star... I'm a nurse. I dunno if I can help but I'll try. Your Gramma probably takes pills for her diabetes instead of shots (insulin)? Pills don't give the best control over blood sugar but they are improving all the time. If she eats food with more sugar than usual then her glucose level will be up a little more than usual. Sometimes when diabetics are ill their sugar will go up, like if she's been vomiting. If she exercises her blood sugar will be less than if she doesn't. The goal is to regulate her sugar to be as close to normal as possible. Non-diabetics glucose should range from 60 to around 100. So she's not far off. The doctor can order a test called an A1C that sorta tracks her glucose level over time that way he/she can tell about how much it runs daily. From a long term stand point her levels don't sound bad to me. I work in the ER and am used to seeing glucose levels from 5 to 10 times what your Grammas are. I'm glad hers aren't like that. You keep taking care of her and I'm sure she'll do alright. :)thnx for replying wendyr

she takes two pills a day, and she does insulin shots

yeah, she thought she was ok again, but it still keeps going low
she thinks she's gonna call her doctor next week

but i guess ur right, a girl i know, she has type 1 tho instead of type 2
she doesnt do wat she's supposed to and her blood sugar is usually in the 200's
so my grandma does good compared to her
Hi Star,

Just thought I would jump in here as well ... my HB has type 2 diabetes.  Blood sugar levels before a meal range should be around the 4 to 6 mmol or slightly higher after eating.  He is insulin controlled morning & night.  Seems to me the problem with your Grandma is that she eats pretty much what she wants & just doesn't think about her levels going up, as well as the fact that sometimes diabetes just gets out of control because it does with no particular reason.

I know it's hard for you, your mum isn't well, you aren't well & every now and again your Grandma's diabetes is making her ill too.  But, you know what Star - you are the person who keeps everyone on track, you are the reason they keep going - so you have to take care of you, because if you are OK they will be OK.

Hugs,
Maz
xoxoxo

Just curious, can I ask why if she is taking insulin by injection why she is also taking tablets ??  My HB's 'Diabetic team' prefer to treat it with tablets or injection not both.

im not sure why she uses needles and pills, but she does

and today instead of going to low, it went to HIGH
she usually stays around 110 and 120 usually

but this morning...it went to about 200 :(
Star,

The injection may be insulin, or it could be another drug to help her pancreas make insulin.

There are different kinds of pills, but most are aimed at making the body utlize the insulin it manufactures.

Here are some good websites that give a general overview:

no its insulin, im sure
she always talks about it with me lol
even when i was little

i would go and look at my grandma's insulin pen

i have a insulin pen needle too
from when my blood sugar was high
i get to keep it lol

never used it tho, even tho my blood sugar was high enough where i was supposed to
but i didnt want to, and im fine now lol, so no harm done for me
