Elbow nodules | Arthritis Information

Been a while since I was here , really lost this site when my computer crashed , just happened to find it again doing a Google search.

Any way:

I don't believe I ever seen any mention of/ not to say it has not been discussed.

I have developed nodules on both elbows, I have 4 on one and 5 on the other. It has become hard to rest my elbows on any surface.
I tried picking at them wit ha needle as if there were like a wart but that only made them more sore.
I tried clear nail polish in hopes that they would dry up without air, did no good either!

What can be done about these? if anything I don't have an appointment with my Doctor until march.

The one doctor I have seen did not know anything about them, so I don't have much faith in that doctor.

OK I found some post on Nodules I had spelled it wrong in search , but most talk of large lumps mine are small and almost look like pimples but they are not that they re hard and seem to have a core to some extent!

Any nodules I've had have usually been larger than what you've described.  For me, they eventually disappeared.  I will say though, that they took a LONG time to go away.  I've had them on my elbows, wrists, fingers and feet/ankles.

This is what I am talking about:

I have had something similar on my thumb, though..
my doctor said that it might have been caused by mtx.  do u take mtx?
are they itchy?
My elbow nodule is more like what Kelstev shows. I thought yours to look more like warts but after a "Bing" image search, I did find a photo of nodules similar to yours.

I'm not sure what you can do with them but I'm pretty sure picking at them with a needle may not be a good solution. Mine on my elbow has gone down considerably with the control of the ra. good luck. I'd leave it to a doctor to pick at it.

Thank you for the links guys!

See what I mean , and at times I can't even put my elbow down on a table or even the arm of a chair.
My sister gets the little ones, in clusters like that.  I get the big meaty ones.  I just had one removed from my thumb joint in May.  So MTX may be the culprit? I had a huge one on an elbow--the size of a walnut--under the skin.  Before any drugs for diagnosis for RA.  when I started the Methotrexate--it went away.   I do have a couple that are small and look like warts--in fact--that is what I thought they were.  They don't grow and they don't change in appearance.  I have noticed more skin issues since the RA drugs.  DO you think there is a correlation between MTX and these nod's? one says it went away when starting MTX another seems to think it has something to do with MTX which I use! when I mentioned that my doctor suggested that the mtx might have something to do with the little bumps I had on my thumb/finger, I didn't mean that mtx caused nodules.  What I had on my thumb was completely different from my nodules.  My nodules actually would go down when mtx was increased.
What I had on my thumb/finger were tiny bumps that were itchy.  That's why I asked if yours were ever itchy.  Those were the bumps that my doctor said MIGHT have been caused by the mtx.  I've had them a couple of times over the last 17 yrs.
Every time I look at this topic I think it says 'elbow noodles' I have an elbow nodule.. it comes and goes when I am on or off my enbrel...  It's very painful if I should lean on it....   and I had it prior to MTX...MTX seems to have little to no effect on it.Ugh!  I had exactly the same thing on both elbows.  Mine came and went too, looked horrible and made small children point and cry!  They were very painful when pressure was applied.  I was on MTX and my doctor said this was most likely the cause.  I went off the MTX and viola!  No more nodules and I haven't had them return.  They are different than the ones I get on my hands and feet, they are more like synovial lumps... but the ones on the elbows look like clusters of warts or pimples gone bad!  Picking at them will get you nowhere because they have no core and you can't have them removed because you will just get more.  I got them a few other places, including my lungs, (this was scary) but mostly my elbows.  This is the very reason why RD took me off MTX.

Maybe this will help;

Don't pick at them with needles!!!  Thanks Waddie, they have a name too Rheumatoid noduoisis how do you like that! and are a side effect of MTX , Great now I got to get off MTX cause I can't stand these things , they hurt and as you said are very unsightly!

Thank you Waddie!

Seriously, get off of MTX because of nodules?

Consider the possibility of rebound flare before getting off of MTX.
I'll check with the rd before anything! mine aren't small..aren't clustered.. and get large and protruding and retreat into the joint...   when it retreats and isn't swollen... it actually hurts more to the touch.

Does that sound like what you have?  Mine aren't caused by MTX...... I had them before that medication.... also had one just below my left knee........

They are small clustered and hurt to the touch.

[QUOTE=Sam1234]Seriously, get off of MTX because of nodules? Thank you again Waddie! You helped a lot! I looked at your picture and immediately said, "aww, hell!" I had one that looked like that on my right elbow a while back. I thought I had banged my elbow on something and received a puncture-type wound because it was an odd roundish shape and seemed to take forever to heal.
(Dude, I'm such a dork!)
