Timeline for enbrel | Arthritis Information

I've decided to start enbrel and am wondering how long the process takes from notifying my doctor to actually beginning the drug.

I have a mail order option with my health insurance so I imagine I will receive it that way.

I'm not sure if approval is needed.

Any information would be appreciated.  I've finally decided, I think,  and I'd like to get on with it.

Thanks!
I needed to get approval from my insurance co, but it didn't take more than a couple of days. I also had to get a TB test and I know that's standard for Enbrel.  They will also schedule a short visit to show you how to take the shots.  All told, it was only a week or maybe a bit longer from the time I decided till the time I had my meds and was taking it like a pro. Ok, taking it like a big baby, but anyway......it was a relatively short process.

About 1 week for me, but my insurance allowed me to get my first fill at the local pharmacy.  Like Linncn, I had to wait for the TB test and had to schedule the appointment with the nurse to show me how to give myself the shot.

Oh yeah, the shots sting a bit but it's not that big a deal, you can handle it I promise.  And Enbrel made such a difference for me it was crazy, and it worked over night!  That isn't typical, but if I remember right, it worked really quickly for Kween too.Yes, it worked really quick for me too.  I had relief by the time I was ready for my 2nd shot.  I give the shots in my stomach.  It doesn't hurt there.  Just make sure you don't inject within 2 inches of your belly button.  That stings! Thanks for the replies.   Much quicker than I  thought.  Again thanks.  I'll let you know how it goes!
