I have a couple more physical therapy appointments to go.  I still have some pain and stiffness when picking things up "overhand" but OMG it's so much better than it was a month ago!  Thank God it's almost over. very good...nice to be on the other side of thingsgood for you Jas!so glad to hear that!!

I've had that pain and it's just so debilitating......and all you can really do is rest rest rest it!

is it your favored arm?  I'm right handed and it always seems to happen on that arm!! ugh.

JR,

How do you know it is tennis elbow and not RA?  I'm having some elbow pain and my dr. thinks it is tennis elbow and I think it is RA.  What symptoms did/do you have?

I was wondering the same thing. :) I have a habit of blaming RA for anything.

The pain is pretty specific - along the outer side of the elbow and forearm, especially when lifting things with the palm of the hand facing down.  Lifting things with the palm facing up, however, doesn't hurt at all.  The doc and the PT could feel differences in the affected tendon, and there was no swelling in the elbow joint.  I've never had RA issues in either elbow, and I currently have no other RA issues anywhere else.

[QUOTE=Phatgirl2]Thanks JR.  I'm so glad you aren't having any issues at all.  That is great news. I had a bout with Tennis elbow...years ago...I painted the kids room...I used the sponge techinque , painting a mural for the boys room. Made repetive motion for 2 days...

I ended up with a tennis ball swelling on the underside of my elbow...it was crazy looking and very painful. It was about 15 years ago. the Doctor at quick care gave me a cortisone shot and it healed up rather quickly.

But, I understand it can be a chronic condition for some...as if we ( RA suffers) need anything more to deal with.

Take care.

I have noticed that my tennis elbow is worse when taking cipro. Strange but true. I am sure my niece turning one year old does not help matters any. Strange that so many of us are experiencing the same thing at the same time.

Mine is the same as what you descibed. Very painful. I put the tv remote up on the edge of the sofa. Sometimes when I reach up to get it I scream. I guess my palm would be facing down. I on the other hand have tendon issues in my shoulders and feet also.

Never heard of tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) causing a 'tennis ball swelling' - I guess you learn something new every day.

Funny...I thought tennis elbow always had swelling!...I googled this and this is not the case...they say it is rare!  (go figure)... I also read that if there is swelling it may be something diffrent like arthritis...

Although, the swelling was HUGE and on the outside upper part of my elbow...and the doctor called it tennis elbow...the cortisone shot worked. I don't think it could of been arthritis...it definately occured because of the painting I did...and it resolved and never came back...

Guess I learn something new every day also!
