My 4 yr old daughter hospitalized with mrsa | Arthritis Information

My daughter Maggie developed a mrsa infection around her right eye and ended up in Children's Hospital the 23rd, 24th and 25th. The worst part was that she and I were unable to see any of her siblings because they have a no visitors under 18 policy right now. Stupid swine flu!
She seems to be back to normal now... although this is her 7th round of mrsa and no one knows why it chose her eye. She's blind in her left eye, so she really needs the right one!
I, on the other hand, feel spectacularly craptastic. I'm trying to catch up with the holiday visiting that we missed but now I'm dizzy, nauseous, and in even more pain than usual. I hope I'm not getting something. It did bother me a bit to be giving myself my enbrel shot IN the hospital! Ugh...
Well I'm going to close my eyes for a bit and see if I can keep my dinner down. Poor Leila. Maybe you were brewing some bug and shrugged off the symptoms so that you could take care of your daughter.

Also, has your daughter seen an infectious disease specialist? I don't know much about MRSA except the common facts, but having had it so many times may be an indicator something else is going on.

For now just take it easy.
I hope your daughter kicks this mrsa. Four times is alot. I am sure the stress alone is not good for your RA feel better soon.Once you get it once, you are prone to get it again.  I have had it around my eye a couple of times.  Not fun.  Unfortunately, if you are a carrier of MRSA, there isn't too much that can be done.  At lleast, that is what I have been told.
I hope she is feeling better.  Bless her heart, and yours too.  It's awful when are kids are sick and there isn't anything we can do about it.
Poor Leila.  What a terrible Christmas.  I'm so sorry for you and your daughter.

I'm with Milly.  I think your daughter should see a specialist.  Seven times is a lot.  Is she just not completely getting rid of it?
Oh, Leila! How miserable!! I agree with the others; it's time for a specialist for your daughter. I hope you are not catching anything yourself. Are you feeling any better today? Thanks for all the sympathy guys.... It actually really made me feel better. (((hugs))))
I think you guys are right about her needing to see a specialist. I have been told by two different doctors (pediatrician and gp) that she is a carrier and that she is likely to get an outbreak when her immune system is compromised. The last two times she had very long courses of bactrim and rifampin and I was hopeful that the mrsa had been killed. Ah, no such luck. I haven't had an outbreak in over a year... so it seems that the bactrim/rifampin combo really did the trick for me *knocking on wood*. This little girl is such a trooper. She's a drug exposed, premature, brain damaged, visually impaired former foster child. You will almost never see her without a smile on her face. It sucks that she has to deal with mrsa on top of all the rest of it. Completely unfair.
I think I am coming down with the RA'ers favorite illness... A sinus infection. Blech. It's so hard to sleep with pain plus a head full of snot. But I'm preaching to the choir now.
Thanks everyone. And SoCalMel, how are you feeling? Have you tried the pie diet I recommended?
I hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of 2009. Here's to a better 2010

I hope your daughter and you both are feeling tip top soon, Leila.  Yes - please, let 2010 be a better year than 2009.  Leila...my DIL has been battling MRSA, though it's not by her eye (yikes!) and she isn't a little kid.  But, it turns out that she is allergic to sulfa which is a component of most of the drugs they use to fight it.  So treatment is severly limitied.  She did respond, thankfully, to what they gave her this last time it showed up.  Anyway, I hope your little one gets rid of it once and for all, so sorry to hear she spent the holidays in the hospital. Poor thing.Hi Leila, I sure do hope you and your little one are feeling better, hugs Janie.  Happy 2010. Hi Leila,

I sure hope your daughter is feeling better and you too!  That' s gotta be hard for the both of you. I'm sorry she's going through this. Maybe and infectious doctor is a good idea? Keep us posted! I hope the new year brings better things for the both of you!
