OT: Son leaves for Army BCT | Arthritis Information

My son leaves for BCT for the US Army on Feb 3rd.  I am proud of him and love him. He wants to serve his country. He has a strong sense of right and wrong and is young, smart, educated, hard working and is very patriotic for a 22 year old. …My concern is that he will become bitter when he truly realizes the hokey pokey of the current politics of our finest in Washington.

This will be a difficult time for me.  I have NO experience with the military. If anyone does have experience, I am open to any advice and suggestions or tips on what I can do for him. I have found some really good info online and am hoping to connect with other parents and wives from his unit when he leaves. Just can’t believe the time is so close….This hit me hard this morning…I woke up early and could not go back to sleep thinking about this.

Thanks, Lisa
my son was gone for a year and is home right now till this summer maybe. He is trying to go back active duty ..he says that is where he belongs? Unfortunetly he is right , that is where he is happy. He is trying to do a lateral move from army to marines. Alot iof the kids boys and girls that he was in school with have joined the military many have been to afghanistan and back ,,,germany japan etc.I will support him and miss him whereever he goes and like you I will miss him dearly and worry for him. The best you can do is lots of mail and small packages from home(care packages). He will probvably share with a friend so send extra. And just be there on the phone when he can call to tell him he will get through it (the home sickness) and you love him and wish him home for a visit asap
Lisa, I have not experienced anyone close to me having to deal with this, but I wanted to say that what a wonderful Young man you have raised that is willing to do this. God Bless your son, and all the others who have raised such brave young people..Thanks Ladies.

doobgirl,
My son will be at Fort Benning for BCT, then his AIT will be at Fort Gordon it is a 7 mos long school. Where did your son do his training? What is his job. Why is he switching to Marines?....is there something I should have heads up about the Army?
IO & DG,

Thanks to yous, your families and especially your service men along with all the other families of servicemen, you too Linncn. Oh, the hardest part for me was the first month, I felt lost and homesick. I remember in the second week, I think at a inside training class, I started crying thinking of home and family, I was 18 and my first time being away. I quickly put my head down on the desk and was appreciative that I had dried my eyes before the drill seargent made me pick my head up and embarrass me.
