I don't know! | Arthritis Information

I tried to "play" soccer with the familia Saturday and kicked the ball back and forth. It went really well and I surpised myself. It was so much fun!!
However, on Sunday I woke up with an ankle so sore it hurt to put weight on it. I don't know if I overdid it and RA reared it's ugly head or if I hurt myself kicking the ball
Fast forward to today and it's still sore and swollen. I'm also having pain up my shin (maybe from the way I'm limping?) Anyways, I've been icing and using voltaren and medicating, but it's still uncomfortable.
I don't want to go to my PCP and look like a fool if it's just my RA. But on the other hand, I don't want to have some sort of stress fracture and think it's just RA.

I guess my question is how do I tell the difference between RA and an injury? Should I call my PCP or my RD??
Good luck with that!

Err on the side of caution and go to your doctor. Especially if you have osteoporosis. So you look a little foolish for a minute, but better safe than sorry. Some fractures are insidious and totally without pain or symptoms.

I'd go to whichever doctor can get me in first. The last thing you want to do is be hobbling around on a fracture. I guess the first order of business will be to take an x-ray.

In the meantime, elevate and ice. And no soccer!
Sam12342010-01-05 16:18:31I have found that I break easier then I used too. Not that my bones break but I can get strains and tears much easier because I have lost my elastisity. I am like an old dried up rubber band. Instead of stretching I snap.If I still hurt in the morning, I'll schedule an appointment with my PCP. :)

Milly, your rubberband analogy cracked me up!! ;)
I'm with Sam... Just drop the boys at my house :-). I'm a quick 6-8 hours away!most of my flares... from childhood til now.. have been started up by an injury...

It's like you twist the wrong way and then the joint says..Oh yeah?? take that!!!

Sorry Mel......  Hope it settles down quickly!!
Mel, isn't that just sooooo frustrating???  We feel good and go out for a bit of fun!

My friends call me "Grace."

Went to my PCP this morning. Turns out I hyperextended some muscle that runs down your leg from your knee to your ankle and have a possible fracture of my tibia/fibula. I had xrays done and they are supposed to call me later with the results. I'm thinking the doc is pretty confident nothing is broken seeing how he sent me home instead of waiting. If it IS broken though... damn, I'm one tough chick!! LOL  For now it's a repeat of the previous days with resting, icing and elavation-ing.
Hope you're all having a superfantastic and extra-comfortble day!

(Snow, hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!)
Aw, Mel!  Tough break and I knew you were one tough cookie already!  After all, you moved half way across the country with RA, husband and kids!!!  I believe all us RAers are tough cookies, which is why we often overlook things we shouldn't!

I am so glad you got it checked it out - I sure hope its not broken.  I would call the doctors office if you don't hear from them by days end... they often get busy and run out of time to call.

You are super, Mel!  Now, take off your cape and take it easy, 'kay?
