Glucosamine/Chondroitin | Arthritis Information

Do any of you take Glucosamine/Chondroitin along with your prescribed medications?  I'm seriously thinking of adding it as a supplement.  Actually, ordered it on-line (Supple drink) and now am getting cold feet.   (I'm feeling well and don't want to upset the applecart.)  Yet, if it would help (even just a little) to rebuild cartilidge, it would be worthwhile.  Will probably ask my doctor before starting it.  I remember (years ago) that he said it did help some people.  I'm currently on Orencia and 2 mg Prednisone.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Sharon, I am happy to hear how well you are doing!  You should discuss this with your doctor before starting as there can be side effects.  Here is a good source for supplement information, discussing pros and cons.

I hope this helps!  As an aside, DH has osteo of the knees and RD told him to use these supplements.  He swears by them, but he does not have our issues.

waddie2010-01-07 11:19:06I take a daily Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement (tablet form), but I've been taking it since before the RA started for my back.  It definitely made a difference and I can feel the change when I stop for a week.  I can't really tell whether it's done anything RA-wise, but if your doctor says it's alright, why not give it a try?Thank you both for responding.  I'll call my doctor before starting just in case there could be a reaction.  It seems like such a small thing to call about, but you never know.
