Okay animal lovers, I am having a problem with my cat.  I have had her for 8 years and she has been perfect about using her litter box.  Recently she has started to urinate on rugs around the house.  We have used the same kind of cat littler all of these years and I am at my wits end wondering what is wrong.  Any suggestions you can share?
She is a wonderful kitty and we love her very much.
We had a similar problem but with the dog.

What we have found is that we a had cat  getting in and helping it's self to the dog food.
Only found out because we heard the commotion  on two occasions and heard the cat hit the rickety side fence with dog up it's backside.

What the dog was doing was remarking his territory, always in the same spot.
Hi GG...we had this problem years ago with a male cat of ours. I can't remember the name of problem though, but he was   not getting enough urine out and his bladder was very large because of it.  I'm not saying that is your cats problem, but what I am saying is this type of behavior usually means there's a medical problem (but not always) so it's best to have her examined.

Good luck!
oh...where is she doing her #2 business?
Her #2 business is being done in her litter box in the basement.
I will probably take her to the vet if this is not solved over the weekend and she hates going there.
Thanks for replying.......
yeah, that's probably for the best.
I hope it's nothing too serious or expensive..lolI agree totally with SnowOwl.

Definitely should take kitty to the vet to check out. Oooh, just the thought of  a possible UTI gong on for days.......
She does not act sick or in pain and she still loves to play and be petted. She is very smart and seems to know what I am saying except ("do not pee there!")  LOL
Thanks!
It is very typical of urinary problems. take kitty to the vet.Have there been any changes around the house?  Animals can't tell us they don't like things with their voices so they often adopt strange behaviour.  Maybe a new kitty?  New food?  Or it could just be age too.  Could also be a health problem too maybe a trip to the vet is in order just to be safe.I know from experience that cats will do this if they have a urinary issue. Quick trip to the vet should take care of it...Hi Betty,
I have nothing really new to add. I think the advice for the Vet is the best. I really just wanted to say hello to you and stay warm.

I think that Sophie, aka Miss Muffitt and I have solved the problem. I read in my cat book that cats do not like a huge amount of litter in their box.  Well, hubby loves Sophie too, so his idea of more is better was snubbed by Sophie.  It was about 2 inches deep!  So, a new box and one inch of litter has the whole household rejoicing.  MEOW! SnowlOwl wrote:  "I had to chuckle though at the image of a kitty stepping into her litterbox and sinking into the litter like it was quicksand. "

Poor Puss!  Can't you just see Ms. Muffett squinting and thinking, "Who's been messing with my box?"  Bet hubby gets the turned up nose treatment for a few days.
wow, it never occured to me that they wouldn't like it deep. I always overfill the box...oops! i guess I better pay closer attention. I learn something new everyday and I think it's something everyone should do.
Thanks for the info!
