for those of you who are in remission or have gone through a remission in pmr.  does it come back?  does it seem like certain events bring on a remission?  i remember my mother who had really severe rheumatoid, went into remission when my father unexpectedly died. but then it came back...........does anyone know more about these things?

i am in process of tapering down very slowly to a very small dose, and i worry, about it coming back...............................i know, i shouldn't worry, but i do..........
I have been in remission since the beginning of2008.  I can tell a difference if I stress on something.  It doesn't seem as bad as when I was diagnosed in April 2007.  Be sure and reduce the pred slowly.  Their are some great post from a few years ago that helped me so much.  If you can go back and read all  you can.  I learned more on these forms then from the Dr.  I have been of the pred since Oct 2007.  Good luck to you

yes, thankyou so much, i have read and re read the whole board also ra board.  i was diagnosed in july 08 with severe overnite pain, over 90 sed rate. dr. put me on 40mgm. and i tapered from there, writing down each change, yes ragnar's formula has been a great help and i have used it. i am down to basically no pred. i cut the half of 1 mgm and then cut it again and am taking it three times a week and then i will quit...........prob. first part of feb. i have walked through it all pain or no pain and i swear by it helping me push circulation and get rid of this. i am not completely free, but certainly can do what i want. used to be very athletic and now i walk my way through it.

i thought stress and big life upsets could affect this and i am determined to sail a smooth course, if at all possible from this point on.  this board has been a godsend to me.

Since it is an autoimmune desease it can come back. For me it did. Not half as bad as before but I wake up every day stiff. I refuse to take anymore prednisone. I take 1 aleve in the morning and that helps. Hi
I also thought I was in remission-prednisone down to 1/2 daily then stopped last year. My mistake -- sed rate still at 77. Symptoms worsened after a few months off Pred. but I have refused to go back on it. Also have not gone back to my rheumy (since he only wants me to start pred again!). taking 2 naproxin every other day or so-seems I symptoms are always there but worsen as naproxin wears off. Wish the pmr would just go away!!

hello, yes, naproxen works for me too, i take one once in a while, when forced to.. i quit pred feb 1, after a long taper. no change, i still have some pain and stiffness, but i walk 2 to 3 miles a day at a fast pace and am convinced it is keeping me going. course i take tons of other stuff, that everyone else takes, maybe that is keeping me off pred. don't know, cause i am not going to quit it, also and experiment. thanks for your experience, all info from everyone helps us all to row our own boats.  i have not gone to a doctor in six months, but i will be doing that soon, just figured my pain level told me what sed rate was hovering at.  right or wrong, i am still paddling.............Hi all...
Havent been here in some time..but wanted to write you...you are all just a thought and prayer away.

Got diagnosed in Feb 08. Went thru loss of parents..loss of home..you name it..didnt make it easy to go thru..

but am here in April 10 and am down to 1/2 mg of pred.

i still wake up feeling sometimes like an old lady..(am 55) and my jelly belly is still with me..
but overall things are better..

am i in remission?
i dont know..i just take it a day at a time...
i can walk, excersize some, and other than the fat that has accumulated..i have learned to live with this..

i am expecting this to burn out..that is what the docs say happens...but i know that today is certainly better than 08 when i couldnt even move.

there is hope...but there is also change...but then the older we get we all change eh?

thanks for all being there
I had PMR throughout 2007 and took my pred as prescribed by the rheumy and my doc.  Then I decided to taper off it and finished at the end of 2007.  I was fine for about a year after that, then I had a few attacks of stiffness, but lately it is quite bad.  So yes, it does seem to come back.  I knew that when I decided to quit pred after only 9 months I was increasing my chances of relapse.  But it looks like PMR can relapse anyhow.  I get the feeling that it never really goes away, but does go into remission and pops back up when  it wants to.  I'm thinking about starting a short course of pred.  My doc has a theory that if you whack PMR with a short sharp course of pred you can stop it in its tracks!   I also wonder about having stress and trauma in your life regarding P.M.R.We have had big family drama's, and I feel this has contributed to my health problems. Doctor's tell us it will burn itself out, but this can take months or years from what I have read. Exercise really does help, even if it does take a while to get moving!!I hoped to be off the preds, but this will not happen for a while yet, too much pain. Seems it is a real mystery disease at the moment. Kind regards to all, aussieg.
