PMR and Extra Exercise | Arthritis Information

Hello all.

Has anyone else noticed a connection between additional, out-of-the-ordinary exercise, and PMR?

I think there is.  I was first diagnosed 3 1/2 yrs. ago with PMR after about 2 months at a weight loss facility using exercise equipment.  Up and downs since then.  Been on prendisone since then.  Now at lowest dose of 2.5 mg.  Then I had a miniscus tear in my knee repaired and about 2 months ago was required to have physical therapy.  Again, on exercise machines I don't normally use (or even have).  BANG.  The PMR returned in my back, hips and thighs full blown..  Neck and shoulders, not so bad.  I think it was because that is the area I was exercising.  Has anyone experienced this?  I really don't think I am imaging it.

Is it possible the muscles are excreting something into the body during/after exercise that is triggering a PMR episode?

I'd like to hear your thoughts.   Thanks.
Hello Mrs B.,
I was diagnosed Dec 2005, still on Methotrexate 25mgm and just this week doing the alternating doses of pred 3mgm and pred 2 1/2 mgm daily. I so want to get back to doing exercise everyday, but until you expressed it , I just thought I was imagining it and I was soft.

I have improved out of sight , but whether it is minding grandchildren( carrying and chasing), or a swim squad, or bike ride (12 km 2 days apart,  in 1 week but not since), I am so fatigued that day and next day. Not so much pain , I think, but such fatigue. Maybe stiffness , but NOTHING like the first 2-3 yrs.

The rheumy said in Jan that it was highly unlikely that I would have a remission after 4 yrs. Very disappointed , but he plays it straight. I want to prove him wrong.

Any exercise I now do , has come at a VERY VERY slow improvement.

I thought that PMR was an inflammation of the blood vessels to the muscles of the joints, so would this not explain the pain. If muscles are put under stress, and the blood vessels are not A1, then not enough blood can get through to repair?????

Not really sure how it all works, but  I just press on , on the better days, and do as much as I can.  Not very good at saving energy for tomorrow, as tomorrow may be awful!!! Mrs B,
I have signed up with my gym again after almost a year's absence so I could work out and lose some of this weight I've gained being on Prednisone.  But each time I go in: first of all, I can hardly do half an hour on the treadmill, with 12 minutes sandwiched in, and then afterward I and tired, and my knees get pretty stiff, and the next day I'm sore all over, especially my back.
I have heard that PMR is like when you do something physical (like say horseback riding) that you're not used to doing and feel really really sore the next day.......that's what it feels like every day whenyou have PMR.  Boy, don't I know it!
