Vitamin D | Arthritis Information

My GP tested me for about a million things last week. One of them was vitamin D. Mine came back at 82. Of course the person that called me knew nothing about what the value meant she only knew she was calling me to tell me that's low. I looked it up and it's just a little bit low. I know this has been discussed here before, I went to the nutrition section but it just seemed like people trying to sell their products. I was just wondering who has been low and how long did it take you to get it to a normal level and did it make you feel any different? Thanks :) It is probaly easier to have low vitamin D in the winter months.

For starters, it's not low, it's normal. But it might be headed in that wrong direction. The normal range is 31-100.

This is an old subject. The vitamin stores are all over the map with doses, etc., etc.

Call your doctor and ask him to call an Rx into the pharmacy where you're sure to get the real deal.

My results are below 20 and am now taking 50,000 IU ONCE A WEEK for 8 weeks, then 50,000 IU once a month.

I do NOT recommend taking this hormone unless you absolutely need it. Those who think "more is better" might be very unpleasantly surprised if they take it and it shoots up the Calcium which can result in heart arrhythmias.

Also, if you're taking drugs for osteoporosis, there's another reason to be careful and let the doctor prescribe.
82?

that doesn't sound low to me

Mine was 4....  THAT is low.

I thought women should have 50 or better?????
