Why does it take 2 days for a flare 2 go down | Arthritis Information

I'm having a flare this morning.  I know it's going to take me to a least Wednesday to have it go away.  Why two days. Why can't you make the inflammation goe down in one day with out using high does of  prednisone.  Should I drink a lot of water?  Help.I have no answer for you. Just wanted to let you know that I am sorry you are flaring. I was in a flare for a couple of weeks and finally seen RD and she injected me with cortisteroids into my ankle (oh so painful) and wanted to do both knees and even told me to take 20mg of pred for a week and taper down 5mg every week until I am back down to my 3mg of pred. And you know what? My ankle was still swelled for about a week after all of that mess!

It would be nice if it would go away within one day, even with using a high dose of pred. Because by the time you get it down, then you are just coming off of it and somewhere down the line you will over do and flare again. It is a vicious cycle.

I hope your flate abates soon and stay away for a long while.
As far as I know, cortisone drugs generally take up to 72 hours to take effect. They have a strong effect that compromises other systems [e.g., kidneys] so best to be thankful these other systems aren't immediately assaulted.

Think positively - that relief is around the corner.

Feel better soon. I was wondering how you were getting rid of a flare in two days. Prednisone thats right. I thought wow this girl is onto something good. LOL

I hope you do not have too many side effects. Stay away from hot food. prednisone makes me so hungry I burn my mouth being impatient sometimes. best of luck. I hope it works really fast.

I think flares are unpredictable in length. I am lucky and I have only had one "real" flare in 2 years. It lasted a month even with stepping up the MTX and prednisone.Your2smart,

I'm sorry you are in a flare.  When I was first diagnosed, my flares always lasted two days.  About two years into it, they started lasting weeks.  I wished something as simple as drinking water would help.  Do you have something you can take to help with the pain?  Anti-inflammatories barely help me take the edge off, but any little bit helps.

Sure hope you feel better soon.
From what I have read here and elswhere, I'd say that you are lucky to be able to knock a flare on the head in two days.
Wishing you the best.
Well two days is when I start feeling better with rest and relaxation.  I can't remember them going on for weeks.  I would go crazy.  I just hate having to use my cane so often lately.  I can kinda tell when a flare is coming on. My knee starts to get tight and this morning I started getting that feeling.  By the time I got her to work it was swelling.  What a day.  Thanks for listening...
