MTX should I shouldn't I? | Arthritis Information
I didn't take my MTX yesterday for 2 reasons- I forgot to refill my prescrip and I have been wondering about taking it with this head cold.
My thought is if I don't have a fever- I think it should be OK to take but my next Humira shot is due Monday and I'm just wondering....
I will call my doctor too because I know that's who I should really be relying on for an answer but has anyone been in this situation and what did you do with what kind of outcome?
My doctor is very conservative- I'm sure he is going to say put it off.
My RD said to NEVER stop MTX .... and if I have any question to call him.
I am to stop my biologic for infections only.. not a cold....
My RA doc told me to never stop MTX.
I've never stopped my mtx for a cold.My RD said don't stop MTX unless it's a respiratory infection. For Enbrel, stop anytime I have any kind of infection.

Same Here, never skipped a dose.
I was so busy wondering about this I forgot to take the rest of my meds today!
I just swallowed them and took my MTX too.
Dr. isn't expected to call me until after 5 PM today and without a fever present I really feel safe about taking it.
My RD says not to take it when I have a fever or infection.
MTX lowers your cell count and that's not a good thing in the face of any kind of infection.
My RD office called and said take the MTX but absolutely no Humira.
I said but it will be a week from the day my cold started that I'm due to take it. If I am better can I take it? They said if you are completely symptomless free you can.
late to the party... but my RD said don't take either if you are sick. I've got a bad chest cold with no fever. I won't be taking enbrel or mtx this week.
I'm pretty sick right now with lots of fatigue. I wonder if I would be running a fever if I weren't taking all these meds... nsaids, vicodin, etc? Do you guys ever wonder that? That's a good question, Leila: How many anti-pyretic medicines do we take that prevent us from getting a fever [which signifies a problem]? Probably everyone on this board.
And maybe that reason alone is why my RD wants me off of MTX if there is a suspicion of an infection.
I'm late to post but I follow these guidelines: If fever present, bad cough bringing up junk, sinus infection, infected ear I don't take MXT. If symptoms are typical cold I take it. If I need antibiotics I don't take it. These were my RD's guidelines for MXT. LindyUgggh- I can't shake this cold so no Humira tomorrow. During the day I feel not too bad but it sneaks up on me by dinner time again and I have a darn swollen gland that is tender. Also a little cough.
I can't believe I am disappointed that I can't take my shot after being so scared of them before. I just want to get into a routine with it and I want to see if it takes effect.
Yes...our meds mask illness/fever. I almost never run a fever. I have had the "funk" for a number of days-sinus congestion and run down. No fever so I wasn't concerned. I have awful allergies and had sinus surgery over the summer. On Friday my PT mentioned that I looked like dirt and felt warm. When I left I had a massive nosebleed with other "colors". Pretty! Went to the dr-and I was actually running a fever! Steriods mask infection. Plus, I take Percocet which contains the same ingredients as Tylenol. I was 102 at the dr-first fever in years!
That being said...Dr. didn't stop the MTX. Point being, it is still in your system from before. It's not a short acting med. She is more worried a flare occuring already when I am down. Don't want the heart/lung stuff to flare up cause the RA is going to town.
Each dr. is a bit different. Also, we are not talking about huge serious infections here. I think the drs have some wiggle room until it becomes a bigger issue.
Hope you feel better...
