?: Any thoughts on what this is | Arthritis Information

Hello To All Members Of This Board:

Will admit I really haven't taken the time to check in on the board in a long while. Really don't have any complaints in regard to my quality of life or anything else. Waking up with my feet ready to hit the ground and ready to go and knowing perfectly well the world shudders at the thought. What a terrific way to begin a day!

However, I do have this thing going on and I'm clueless as to what's going on and thus don't know if I should be concerned. This is what is going on and has began about two weeks ago:

My muscles from knees to shoulders and shoulders to my elbows begin to ache and in no time the aching is pretty much unbearable. As this is taking place a burning sensation begins in my muscles. I haven't any tender joints/spots; no stiffness; and my range of motion isn't affected.
Have resorted to taking one tramadol every twelve hours. This is all it takes to eliminate all symptoms. If I don't take a tramadol before going to bed sleep doesn't happen because of the intense aching. Does anyone have a clue as to what could possibly be going on.

For sure I will appreciate any input from one and all. Take Care and Gentle Hugs

The no stiffness is what is throwing me for a loop. Muscle pain can sometimes be from low potasium or low blood sugar even. it could be so many things. It is best to get a cbc when something new is going on. Especially with the numness or tingling.

I would really go as soon as possible to get some bloodwork. It sure does not sound like fibromyalgia or anything with no stiffness.

I had pain and numness and was woke from a deep sleep feelling like i had been stung by bees once. my potasium and bloodsugar were very low.

i hope you feel better soon and I hope it is nothing serious or long lasting. best of luck to you.
I would get to the doctor immediately. What you are experiencing can come from any number of things -- and only a qualified doctor can bring it all together for you.sorry you're having this issue.. WW......
Hope you find relief soon!!
I agree that a quick stop off at the PCP or RD is at the least, ordered!

Hey WW...I think the others are right, you need to speaking to your doctor/doctors about this. I would have said maybe Restless Leg Syndrome could be possible but that doesnt fit with your torso and shoulders being sore. Although the aching you describe is exactly what it feels like.

RLS has been so bad it has stopped me sleeping in the past. The best treatment is prevention by taking a calcium/magnesium suppliment.

I would definitely get it checked out as soon as you can.

I have no answers but hope the doctor can figure it out and get you feeling good again quickly! Hi WW, I have no idea what this could be, but I understand your reluctance to go to the doctor!  Sometimes it seems that is all we do and maybe some little part of us is even afraid.  Still, this needs to be tended to in order to bring you peace.  Please go soon!   I would definately seek out a Dr. for this, there are just too many illnesses it could be or it could be nothing. Please don't risk it and just have it checked out...ya just never know what it may be.I tend to agree with what others were saying about some form of mineral/vitamin deficiency but again, blood work, full musculoskeletal assessment is in need to determine the culprit.

Please let us know what it turns out to be?
Well, I made an appt. with my gp and kept it. He ordered lab work to test my tsh, t3 and t4 levels. Had an appt. the second week of January for my yearly exam and as usual lab work was part of the exam. Anyway the lab results for my tsh was elevated a bit and my doctor lowered my levothyroxine dosage.
This is why he ordered the lab tests again. He is thinking perhaps he lowered it too much. My thinking is I've been at this same dosage for years and why the change? There's a possibility the lab messed up. So until the results come in the only thing I can do is take a tramadol every 12 hours. Can take more, if needed, but if I don't have any more issues than I'm dealing with now I probably won't have to.

So until those lab results come in I'll continue to be a wee bit annoyed. Certainly am hopeful that it's just a lab goof.  *Take Care Everyone & Gentle Hugs*

Tell your doctor your want a test to check Vitamin D level. The symptoms you describe can be a number of different things, but Vitamin D insufficiency symptoms fall in that realm.

Re the TSH: you said the result was high and he lowered your thyroid med? I think you meant the TSH result was LOW [which means you have too much thyroid med in your system -  which means he would lower the dose].

Good luck!
I have taken tramadol for a long time. When I miss 2 or more doses in a row, I get a severe case of muscle aches to remind me I developed a dependence on this stuff. Could the tramadol you are taking for pain be the cause of pain when it wears off?Sam: Your correct - thank you. It wouldn't be good to confuse others on the board.

Actually my Vitamin D level was included in the lab work. The only lab which had changed was my tsh.
Until this recent issue began I would take tramadol only when my left knee was giving me a rough go of it.  Haven't ever had to take more than two in a twenty-four hour period. Never have had any issue with aching, etc. from not taking tramadol.
The aching issue began about two weeks after I was put on a lower dose of levothyroxine. Each day the aching, etc. has been a bit worse. Today, I had a couple of small muscle cramps.

Hopefully, the lab report comes in by Wednesday because we will be out-of-town for three to four days.
Thank you all for caring, your ideas and your gentle insistence that I go to the doctor.

Hi Watchingwolf, re Tramadol. Just a thought!
I take 1oomg in am 100mg pm, like you 2 in a twelve hour period. I also have Panadol Osteo and I can take 2 to 6 a day for breakthrough pain.
I really find this works well for me, on bad days Tramadol is just not enough. All with Dr's okay of course.
Gentle Hugs to you Too!

Watchingwolf,

I'm with Sam1234.  If your TSH is elevated, it means you're hypo and your doctor should increase your thyroid meds, not lower them.
