It IS scary stuff. And I wonder if part of the reason that bacteria couldn't be eradicated was because patients are already sensitive to antibiotics.
 
With all the super-antibiotics we have nowadays, I wonder if it's such a good idea to use them on otherwise healthy people. They didn't have most of the antibiotics back in the early 1900's and I think people were by and large healthier....probably because their immunity was challenged. You have to wonder if we're really doing the right thing issuing antibiotics for every little thing. [Of course, for those with autoimmune diseases, that's one thing.....but for otherwise healthy people it's probably better to let them ride it out.....maybe.]
 
There's another lesson to be gleaned from the article:  whenever you can, use an ambulatory hospital for outpatient surgery. The quicker you're in and out the less chance of exposure.
