A horse named Charlie... | Arthritis Information

I know why they are called Charlie horses, cause it feels like ya got kicked by a horse! Is his name Charlie? I don't know. What I do want to know is why do I keep getting these horrible cramps in my calves, and why do they often come at night while I am sleeping? They send me popping right up out of the bed in the night. Does anyone else get these? It has been happening for about 2-3 months now and it has been worse the past few days.

I like horses, but not the Charlie horse kind...how do I get rid of them?

I have had these a few times too, don't know why. Maybe the restless leg syndrome?  For me., it's usually when I haven't been able to sleep for a couple of days.  My RD and Gp don't seem to think it's all that important.  But I do!!

Yes, I asked my doc about it and I dont think I really got an answer. I just wondered if it was a sign of some kind of vitamin deficiancy. I though that it was, but I take a multi vitamin every day.

It is funny how doctors dont think things are important (unless maybe if they have it!)

Thats what my naturopath told me to use but I don't actually have cramps I have restless leg syndrome and my legs jerk, in fact my whole body jerks, I jack-knife in the middle every 30-40 seconds for hours on end if I don't take my Cabaser.  If anyone tries to take that away from me I will commit murder.  I'd even be able to claim diminished capacity due to severe sleep deprivation.

Anyway, try some extra minerals and see if it helps.

Hi crunchy, I get the leg cramps too.I don'tknow if it's from the fibromyalgia or RA but who can figure out the symptoms of any of these auto immune diseases.  They all overlap anyway. I get them especially if I've overdone the exercise, am extra tired, or am coming off methtrexate. At least that's when I seem to notice the most. Sometimes they hit me in the middle of the night.  Sometimes I also get shooting pains down my arm.  Once it was so bad they thought it was a heart attack and hooked me up to an EKG. Just RA it turns out.  Sorry you're having such a hard time of it.
I believe there is a lack of potasium in your diet.

Yes, low potassium does cause it but my labs were all normal--of course I dont even know if they did a BMP...hhmmm. I feel like a dummy

Thanks yall!
I hope you feel better soon

Going shopping for bananas today---I feel like I am singing that Gwen Steffani song Hollaback Girl every time I type that word..."the ---- is bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!"
