appetite problems | Arthritis Information

One more and I PROMISE to shut up.  Anyone else with fairly significant appetite problems.  The Prednisone, needless to say, made me hungry all the time and if I didn't get my pasta somebody was gonna die.  Now, I really have to MAKE MYSELF eat. Even things I love, don't appeal.   I've lost about 30 pounds in the last 5 months.  This is a good thing...don't get me wrong because I gained a LOT of weight on the Prednisone and still need to take off more.

Just wondering if eating is a problem for anyone else?

I WISH I AM ON PREDISONE I JOINED WEIGHT WATCHERS IT TOOK ME A MNTH TO GET 5 LBS OFF ..TERESA

If you are on Prednisone and lost 5 pounds that is a HUGE accomplishment!!  Congratulations....weight gain is inevidible wiht Prednisone (depending on dose and length of the course).  GOOD FOR YOU!

I am the oddball. Pred makes me lose weight like you would not believe. Each kenalog injection I would lose between 5 and 10 pounds, so I was quite thin during those years. I never really had much of a weight prob, gained 30 punds on ENbrel, but other than that I never have much of an appetite.

AH, that is the difference.  The injectible steroids will not have the same affect on your body as the oral Prednisone will.  The oral is systemic and have some very nasty side effects beyond the weight gain which will happen no matter what you eat or how much.  Injectibles are localized and will serve to cool down a particular joint and its soft tissues.

Don't confuse this with the Dosepaks that start you out on a fairly hefty dose of oral steroids and then taper down over a period of a week or two.  I am referring to a different type of therapy, taking Prednisone every day for much longer periods of time.  It usually takes a few months for the side-effects like weight gain to start showing up.

VT~I've gone through that off and on as long as I can remember. It's worse when my RA is active. Loss of appetite and weight loss is a sure sign I'm not under control.

You're right....even your favorites really don't apeal. I can eat a few bits and feel like I just don't want another bit. If it wasn't for my meds and having to have something on my stomach to take them I'd be in serious troubles at times.

It's not unusal to have loss of appetite with RA. It's a classic symptom.

hate to say it but i hope i am just like you VT - gained 20 on pred.  weaning down now, getting close to getting off, i would love to have no appetite.  I have lost a few this last week

I can only pray that I lose my appetite. I have been gaining weight for the last 8 months and I swear that is when I started feeling tired and run down all of the time. So maybe I am weird and if my RA is not under control I gain....If so this MTX better kick in quick. I am 30lbs heavier than last summer. 8 of it is since the Prednisone, even though I have been trying to eat smarter. I am determined not to stay on Prednisone for very long at all and my RD wants me off to. I was on 10, then 7.5, and today I only took 5mg. next week it is 2.5 for a week and then I dont know if I should do 2.5 every other day for a few days.  I am getting off of it no matter what and I am going to get all of this weight off.

So what ever yall have, I WANT SOME TOO!!!!!!
