Hi guys, right above where the heel of the shoe finishes on the crease of your foot attaching to your ankle, I have what I think is a swollen achilles tendon, a small lump, it goes up and down in size and feels squishy and is quite sore, especially in the mornings, anybody had this?  Forgot to ask RD, always have so much to ask him.  Cheers janie.squishy could be a ganglion cycst. I had one once on my foot coming from the ankle but mine was in front of the ankle. Better get it looked at could be any number of things. ganglion cyst are fluid filled and attach to the tendons and usually come near a joint. Treatment depends on pain and how big they get.

Please get it looked at. My exboyfriends daughter was dx with a ganglion cyst and they were going to drain it. Her older brother insisted that they do a biopsy and she had a rare rare rare form of cancer. If they had drained it it would have killed her becaue they would have missed the biopsy. She is healthy eight years later. This form of cancer would have killed her in six months and she was eleven at the time. Best to check your lumps even if they are squishy.
I have so far in life only had two ganglion cyst. I noticed that both times I had been taking advil prior to getting them. i have not had one for about six years now. I quit taking advil. The one in my foot i never got any medical treatment for except flexeril when it was at it' s biggest. It popped on it's own.

I had a huge one on the tendon just below the knee. It was a problem child to say the least. i had it removed and it came back. Well it was under the ligements and tendons very deep and no one could tell it was squishy. My knee surgeon thought I had cancer. Well for a moment he did before the mri. ganglions do not show up on mri so when it was invisable that was our first clue. The biobsy after surgery confirmed.

The darn thing came back. When it came back it was at the surface at least a bit more comfortable. Thank goodness because it was super big. I had to keep driving out of town to get it drained. Then finally it got to hard to drain so a second surgery was the only option.

I have a big dent in my leg under my knee. The doc had to cut alot of tissue and part of my tendon out to get rid of it and it was huge.
I've had this before . It comes and goes when my RA feels like going those spots! It is soar, hard to wear certain shoes. very wierd isnt it? I showed my RA doctor at one time along with other spots on my feet, she didnt comment on that particular spot so I'm assuming it's just the RA.Janie, I have several small lumps on my left Achilles and one on my right.  They aren't too squishy, more to the firm side, and not sore.  My podiatrist did a sonogram and said they were RA nodules, one sort of goes partly through the tendon.  IDK if this is the same thing or not?  In any case, there isn't anything to be done for them but watch.  I am lucky they don't hurt!

Good luck with yours!

that is a commmon site for rheumatoid nodules..try wearing a pair of shoes that hit your ankle differently and see if that helpsI forgot to add yesterday, I use a product called Moleskin here, IDK if they have it there?http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Scholls-Moleskin-Padding-Packages/dp/B001EPQG1M

I buy it in smaller, cheaper packages at Wal Mart.  It takes the pressure off the rubbing and works well for me!  I hope this helps!
