Warning if you are diabetic | Arthritis Information

I don't recognize many names, I will have to come back sometime and see how the board has evolved.  Barely coping.  Have not been  on Enbrel in months.  I had a tooth and gum infection.  Four courses of antibiotics and it would not clear up.  The dangers of the infection - I finally let go of the little bit of vanity I had left and had 5 teeth pulled and several other I could not get the teeth replaced - financially so remember me with that beautiful smile I used to have.

Now to  warning.  It seems the body is falling apart.  New dxs I am getting used to.  I am diabetic now.  I am not overweight as whren I am in pain - food is like cardboard.  On lots of painkillers but I am responsible for my daughter so I can't be comatose

Boy this post took forever.  Sorry.  Typing is not my thing but probably the drugs - I digress.

Love to all of you I have known and loved over the years and wishing all more good days than bad and an appreciation for what is important - family, friends and smiles - even if they are toothless Roxy I am sorry about the teeth. I will always remember you with your beautiful smile. I am sure it is still wonderful in every way. My Mom has a partial denture and hates to ware it unless she is leaving the house. I think she is cute when her teeth are out. I have gotten so used to it by now that I do not even notice. She is always beautiful to me.

It is like when you get your long hair cut to a short hair cut. It takes time to adjust to the new look. Give your mouth some time to heal and just know you are a treasure to everyone.

The post was so sweet glad you took the time to type it. It was good to hear from you.
HI Roxy, I often wonder about you and still pray for you.  I am so sorry to hear all this but thank God you did not take that pred, thanks for the heads up, that worries me as all my docs are saying I am prediabetic due to pred, none of them have told me when I get diabetes, (which they assure me I will after 10 years of pred, it is apparently inevitable) that I will have to come off of it, that would be a fate worse than death, just 1mg lower and I am in lots of trouble!  Anyway, I know it must be hard about your teeth but if its causing you trouble at this stage Roxy, I say we are better off without them as much as I hate the changes this all brings too, OI have lost so much hair at the front.  I will keep you in my prayers, please stay in touch, love Janie. Roxy,

Sorry to hear of your problems.

I am Type 2 diabetic and can take low-dose Pred for systemic flares, though I do so very sparingly. I wouldn't dream of touching the regular Pred.....but not because of diabetes, but because of the latent TB I have [Pred can activate it].

What kinds of drugs are you on for your diabetes. I've managed to maintain my glucose very well with Metformin alone.

I do not hesitate to take Kenalog injections in the joints. [Kenalog is Pred.] It drives my glucose up for a couple days, then comes down to where it should be.

It's a fine line we walk when we have inflammatory arthritis and diabetes.

Janie - it won't make you feel better, but misery loves company. The MTX has me shedding like a dog. I swear it's molting season at my house. My front hairline is receding and lately I'm on a mission to find pretty, wide headbands to cover my "nakedness."
Things have not been well for you Roxy of which I hope that things turn for the better.

Thanks for the tip (warning) on pred when associated with Diabetes.
Wonderful hearing from you Roxy even though it's not great news.  I and probably others have wondered how you are doing.  Do you still in the same house with the beautiful flower garden?  Do you still have your dog?  And how is Kelsey doing?  What about Colton?  Friendly minds are interested Roxy.  I think that we should name you "Wonderwoman" for all that you have been thru and yet your attitude is, "I can do this".  Take care Roxy and visit more often.
Huggin ya!
Good hearing from you Roxy.  Sorry to hear about everything going on with you but thank you for the diabetic information.  Please post more, we want to know how you are doing.  SandyEverybody's medical situation is different so their reaction to medications may also be different.   NO prescription medication should be taken without your doctor's knowledge.

Prednisone can be used safely under a doctor's care even by a diabetic.  But it is up to each of us to talk to our physicians and read up on our medications so that we are aware of the potential pitfalls.
