Hurting... Any ideas? | Arthritis Information

I have an appointment next month.  Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this.

At first, I thought I was either getting sick or starting an RA flare.  Didn't get sick.  The pain doesn't quite seem like RA pain.  It feels like a deep ache, somewhat like muscle, though not muscle strain.  The muscles in my arms hurt when I try to raise them over my head.  I can hardly put my hair up.  The pain is in both arms.  I also hurt on the outside of my hips, but a couple of inches lower than the hip.  Just below the knees toward the inside of my legs.  I also hurt in the front of both shoulders, as well as on the back, by the shoulder blades.  Just touching these areas takes my breath away.  It's extremely tender.

Anyone else ever had this problem?  If so, what was it?
Hey Kweenb, fibro?  This sound an awful lot like it, the points you describe as hurting are the same ones my RD checks.  It feels like I should have a fever, but don't, when it is active.  Also, its kinda like my skin is even sensitive and I am soooooo tired.

I would ask about it and see if its a possibility.  Gentle, gentle

I felt exactly like that about 3 months or so ago and I was so wiped out that I was sleeping a lot. In addition, I had a lot of the symptoms that one has when she's hypothyroid....except I was hyperthyroid at the time. I don't have fibro and it didn't seem to be like my usual brand of flares so my endocrinologist, smart lady that she is, ran my Vitamin D.

It had bottomed out.

Get it checked in your next set of blood tests. In fact, everyone should check Vitamin D once a year.
I don't think it's my mattress.  I've had it about a year.  It's an air mattress with a foam topper.  It's so comfortable.

I did start a new medication about 4 months ago, but I think it's suppose to help with pain.  It's an old tricyclic antidepressant called imipramine.  My GP gave it to me for anxiety and insomnia.  Muscle pain wasn't listed on the side effect sheet from the pharmacist, but I guess I should Google it.  I'm hoping it's the drug, or vitamind D levels, and not fibro.  Thanks guys.

Re imiprimine:

It has been know to cause fatigue. This drug is a cytochrome P450 and about 10% of all caucasians are poor metabolizers of this drug. If you're one of the 10% then the drug builds up in your system and can have a more powerful effect on you. On top of this, if you're taking a drug that opposes the actions of this cytochrome, then you've got more issues.

Just a possibility.

Get your vitamin D checked. If that comes back between 50-80 then go see a pain management specialist. You wouldn't go to a CPA to get your taxes done, would you?

Whatever you do, do NOT go off this drug without the supervision of a physician [who knows about psychotropic meds].
Sam12342010-03-14 09:54:06I feel like that most days and yes I have fibro along with RA

Sounds like Fibro.  I have been experiencing the exact same symptoms this past week and I will see a new Rheumy next month and will be discussing Fibromyalgia with him as I have every symptom and all the tender points are hurting and burning.  Sandy
