I want to have my bunion removed on my right foot so I can walk better.  My question is it worth it having RA for so long and Anemia that might cause complication with the surgery.  I really want this done before my foot become disfigured.  Anyone have this surgery?  What was the time off work? What was the pain like?

RA 14 years
Dx 1996
Meds: Prednisone, Folic Acid, citalpram,
I had bunion surgery before I was diagnosed with RA but it was probably the damage from RA.  I don't remember it being outlandishly painful.  They gave me some good drugs to help with the pain and I remember sitting on the couch with a drink, a down blanket, a pillow, the tv and my 2 Siamese cats and just relaxed afterward and just enjoyed the time off.  It was difficult which I could finally soak my foot--seemed the water hurt!-- and the physical thereapy afterward was difficult at first.  It was worth it--that foot is good.  The other one needs it buy in today's climate--I am not taking the time off from work--I won't have a job to come back to.  All  h e l l  broke lose after than--that is when the RA really kicked in.  Just don't get both feet down at the same time-you will be crawling for a couple of weeks.  I was actually awake and talking with the doctor and nurse during the surgery.
